I was under the impression that only adults could be put on the sex offenders register but saw on TV today that there are kids as young as twelve on there. So I had a quick check online and found that there have been quite a few cases of this type.

Can this be right? Should children that young be put on a sex offenders register when it's most likely they themselves don't fully understand the physical or mental aspects of sex and/or sexuality.

I mean, I don't get how it works, say you have two kids of 9 or 10 who're playing 'doctors & nurses' or whatever together, are they now classed as paedo scum who should be locked up and slammed on the 'evil sex fiend register', or?

The girl in the link I provided above was 12 when she was put on the register, that was roughly 9 years ago, so she'd be 21ish now. Would she still be on the register now? If so, that can't really be right, can it?

Sex Offenders list is widely accepted as being an awful idea anyway, it's just not clear about the crime committed and it's grossly unfair in many cases. You could be on it for as little as slapping someones arse or as much as raping someone.

You're right. The powers that be really should sort that out. Especially these days where you get accused of being a paedo for taking pics of your own kids playing football in the park.

Don't underestimate how much kids know about sex at that age. We've all seen the "Pregnant at 12" headlines. The girl in the article you linked to was fiddling four, five and six year olds. Sure, they're not aware of the implications of sex, but any 12 year old that doesn't know that interfering with infants is wrong should probably be listed on some kind of register.

When placed on to the sex offenders register is it for a fixed period, or is it for the entirety of the offenders life?

Sounds like he's starting off remorseful but no, it's because he's lost his phones. Again though, pretty farcical reason to be put on the register.

Heh, yeah, everyone seems to pick that bit out when they read the story.

I dunno though, if you've seen the Speed Grapher anime, you'll know what happens when a leg-fetish goes unchecked. Probably for the best. :p

If you fiddled with or sexed children much younger than yourself when you were in school, yes, that's against the law...

I lurk. If I've spoken to you, I'm either impassioned, or drunk.

That article is full of fail.

He said outside court: "I will not be doing it anymore because the police have taken my phones off me."

That's the kind of remorse and regret I like to see in my crims. ;)

As always I was into older girl in school. My first girlfriend was 8 when I was 6, Yvette 10 when I was 8 1/2, a few others then a main one, Kim who was 13 and I was 11. Bit of a liberty that it's illegal now. :/

A bit harsh but better than a 12 year old having to be on the register for the rest of their life I guess. I wonder if they have a sliding scale that takes the severity of offense into account. Getting the same length of time for taking a few photos without permission as somebody released from prison after a child buggering spree doesn't seem particularly balanced.
