|Ok. I used to have an Canon photo printer that I could get black and colour cartridges for £1 each, which was great. I think it was an ip1500. I now have an ip2200 and the cartridges are like £15 and the quality isn't that much different. So I'm looking to buy a new printer, but hopefully one that has cheaper cartridges. Does anyone know of a good one (anywhere up to £100) for this? I'll gladly pay more for the actual printer if it saves me money on ink in the long run.|
Best new printer to buy that has cheap ink!!

Grind the bones of the African mould newt to get the red pigment, scrape the scales of the abugoonamu grub for all other pigments and refill your cartridge for free. Simple.

I would also like to know this - cheap printers are evil.
Me too. It's getting to the point where's its cheaper to buy a whole new printer with cartridges than it is to replace your used up ones
It's cheaper to buy a budget printer than restock on ink.
ed: oh, beaten to it.

I bough a cheap HP laserjet 1000 years and years ago and I've only needed to replace the toner once, and that is with fairly non-trivial use. Definitely worked out cheaper than getting an ink-jet in the long run.
(for anyone thinking of getting a laser, don't get a brother, they're bloody useless)

Why not try refilling? i am sure it is much cheaper and saves on all the rubbish..
Have you got a cartridge world near by?
Depends what you mean by "near by". Is it closer than my PC and online shopping? Hmmm... no.
/is a lazy bastard
Seriously though, it is quite a way out of the way. Would cost as much in petrol as I'd save
Sifted though a few 'which' reviews and the printer most people are happy with overall for ease of use, cartridge budget and reliability is this one more than 60% over any other printer. It isn't the most modern, as it's been out over a year, but it's the most wanted.
That's the printer. That's buy it now. But I could buy a refurb as they do them direct from Brother with a 12 month warranty for around £40.
Here's some ink...
That's 10 cartridges for £14. 4 black, 2 yellow, 2 cyan, 2 magenta. Works out at £1.40 a cartridge.
I think I may be saving myself a packet.....
Sounds like a good deal. Not had much experience with Brother before though.
Report back on what its like if you get it
A handy planet.
Laser printers... always win.
The budget printers with ink is cheaper than standalone cartridges thing is a bit of a myth - the cartridges that come with them tend to be extremely poor quality and only have about a third of the ink of a normal cartridge anyway.
Yes, laser printers are indeed full of win. I need to get around to upgrading to a decent colour model though. That said, the amount I've saved over the years with mine vs inkjet I could easily afford it.
Plus I have duplex too... but only my missus uses it because she cares about the planet or some such bollocks.

I use ink really fast, using an epson 760 (ancient, but good) and I get cartidges for 40p from the Play.com marketplace - after postage I get 10 black and 5 colour for about a tenner.
edit: oops, just saw how old this thread is... sorry!
