    bump

    Being put on a 4 day week from 1st March - i.e. a 20% pay cut :-(

    Doesn't bode well.

Just over six weeks and I lose my job.

Despite having to sign on for the first time, I'm looking forward to it. I hate my current job and it's making me into a very depressed and miserable person at times. Emotionally I'll be all the better for losing it.
  • Deleted user 11 February 2009 12:54:08
Christ, signing on, what a depressing thing that was. Good luck in the job hunting.

Close. My girlfriend gets 40 a week, or something like that. They also wouldn't give her any housing allowance as since she lives with me we are 'common law man and wife' and I'm supposed to provide for us both on 7 an hour.

    Uhh, right. Idiots.

That sucks :( It's so demoralising.

Got any Chinese ones? I'm looking for hard workers who don't eat much.

Not sure what your backgrounds are guys, but have you tried joining industry forums, and touting yourself like a whore?

    Got me a job twice!

What the fuck?! 40 a week?! That's barely enough to feed you! Where do you live?

    Come and get it cumslingers!

TBH I might be wrong - I think it might be as much as a whopping 45 a week.

    I live in Liverpool.

But yeah that doesn't pay for anything really. It's gone within seconds of getting it.

    EDIT: Yep, it's 45 a week as she gets it bi-weekly and it's 90.

Not due to the recession, but I'm out on my arse as soon as Gordon calls the general election (I'm an MPs assistant). Boss is retiring and not much chance of Labour retaining the seat in any case. I wouldn't mind, but it seems jobhunting just got a whole lot harder.

Think it's about 62 a week round these parts (didn't actually realise it changed).

Was just thinking, I've never actually signed on... even when I was out of work for just over a year. I'm sure it would be an experience. :)

    I don't really understand why people don't.

You get a bit of cash to live off, plus can get your rent paid in most cases. All for spending an hour or so one day going down to set it up and then checking in once every couple of weeks or so.

Is it because other job seekers scare you?

I'll be signing on straight away, I don't have any other choice. My bank currently contains a spare 20 but that's it :D

    Damned straight!

I was actually fairly impressed when I was forced to. Spent a few months on it after being made redundant a couple of years back. When it happened I thought I was fucked, but pretty much everything is covered one way or another, especially as I paid protection on my loan, so even that was paid.

Just didn't feel right... and no, I have no idea why. I suspect part of it is because I decided to get a few qualifications whilst I was unemployed and as I never got benefits in uni maybe it seemed the same. :)

Yeah 90 bi-weekly. So that's the equivalent of 45 per week.

If I didn't /need/ to sign on during fits of unemployment, I wouldn't either. It's demoralising as hell.

I think you need to do it for NI contributions or you get bummed when you do need money.

Oh fucking hell I need to go back to school. I cant count.

Yeah 45 a week. That's shit. I thought you meant you she got it twice a week.

    Come and get it cumslingers!
