Has anyone had a gander at Alan Ball's (Six-feet Under) new show, True Blood. Its on HBO and is about 3 episodes in. I haven't had a chance myself yet, ill probably download some tonight, just wanted to know what a few of ye think.

..based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris.

The show details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town, after Japanese-made synthetic blood "TruBlood" becomes available for purchase. It follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a diner, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

Yeah, ive been watching it. Caught the first ep when I was in the states.

Its pretty good actually, surprisingly so.

It also has an inordinate amount of footage featuring Vinnie from Home and Aways bare ass.

I saw the first episode last night, it's ok. Different from Six Feet Under though, and lots of sex is involved.

I'm sold. I bought Roadhouse just for Swayze's endless bare ass scenes.

I'll have to get a couple of episodes tonight so.

I watched the first episode last night and I really enjoyed it. It's very well written and incredibly funny at times. Wasn't expecting as much graphic sex scenes as there was, though and the gay allegory is so obvious. So far, so good. Going to watch episode 2 tonight, I think!

Speaking of Vinnie, the poor bugger had to put up with a persistant comedy boner this episode.

I am actually quite liking this at the moment. Its one of the better things that started in september.

    I want Deadwood back. :(

True Blood is watchable, but I'm not counting the seconds until the next episode comes on....well, maybe I am because immediately after is Entourage. :)

Watched all the episodes last night, and I really really like it.

It's done a Jericho though and killed off a really awesome older character. :(

Also ;_; :I totally teared up when William saw that picture of his family

This is growing on me fairly strongly. Wasn't sure about the first couple of episodes - good in parts, but Anna Paquin seemed a bit too chirpy and dizzy to work as a lead character, and the whole thing felt like it could do either way. She's settled into the role really well now, the supporting cast are incredibly strong, and the whole thing is starting to develop very nicely.

The allegories are right there alright, but I don't think that's a bad thing - it kind of hops between various different fields, the civil rights movement and the acceptance of gay people being the main ones (I think it's more focused on civil rights than on gay people, mostly). It reminds me of Battlestar Galactica in how it handles them, though - a light touch here and a reference there, rather than a heavy-handed, moralising direct comparison that bashes you in the head all the way through each episode.

Fucking love the opening credit sequence, too.

It's quite subtle, except for the whole "God hates fangs" thing :D

Unlikely it's been cancelled. Already been picked up for a second season afaik.

It's usually last to appear on the recently uploaded blogs. I'd check again around midday.

Still not loving this, it's enjoyable but hasn't hooked me like six feet under.

Its variable. This weeks episode wasnt great, except for a few scenes.

Its mostly decent, though and some of the incidental characters are actually better than the main ones.

God, I can't stand this show. The first few episodes were horrible, and not even in a "so bad its good" way.

I gave up watching after 4. Think I'll try Pushing Daisies instead.

Couldn't get on with Pushing Daisies. Anna Friel's fixed teeth put off. Not right at all.

Is anyone else getting a bit fed up with all the Vampire stuff?

Pushing Daisies is shits. shame as I really liked Dead Like Me.

Really liked it from the start, and it's just getting better and better.

This is even higher on my list than Dexter. And I'm a big Dexter fan.

The biggest surprise for me so far was that Rogue went topless in a scene.

Otherwise...it's decent. The concept of the vamps living in society and how they portray the vamps doesn't really match, if you ask me.

Yeah, the topless thing was a nice surprise. But that ultragory (for tv) death of a vampire, was really cool.

Hell, even for a horror movie that was nice.

The one part of the show I missed that I wish I saw. Turned it on a little late the night that aired....and late each subsequent night I tried catching it as well. :(

This show is the best on tv right now.

Good thing there's going to be second season.

Edit: Next season starts summer 2009.
