This is awful. Oh my god is it awful. Why did they cast a smarmy emo gob-shite as Merlin?

Flicked it on by accident, sounded annoying.

I know it's meant to be fantasy, and is aimed at children... but when you set a show in the medieval times, don't have one of your characters refer to someone as a 'super model'.

This underwhelmed in its amateurish blundering, even my lowest expectation. None of it was believable, least of all the lead. It was largely dull, though I couldn't help but raise a wry smile at the villainess (i suppose i have to spoiler tag out of courtesy, but) putting everyone to sleep before the end.

I agree with your feeling about it being a "modern production" terminus - there's no cohesion to any of it, as a result though, and it seems as if the whole rickety thing will fall apart at any moment with the slightest of prompts, and the cast tumble about laughing, at how ridiculous it all is.

I actually thought this was quite well done, had a good plot, a few really strong characters and the casting was spot on, had trouble understanding what one of them was trying to say, then I realized I was watching 80's childrens favorite 'Rainbow', turned out my wife turned over after a few minutes and I didn't really notice :(

Caught a few minutes of it. Couldn't work out why they're showing it so late at night considering it's a kids show.

Err, I thought it was OK.
No less watchable than Dr Who or Robin Hood imo.

I know "It's made for kids" etc etc, but god this was awful. To give you an idea how little there was to cling on to, the "highlight" for me was that John Hurt did the voice of the dragon.

What's even more awful is that I know I'll probably watch it again next week.

I didn't watch it, but I did see a picture on the front of the Radio Times, which means I am informed enough to ask: what the fuck is up with the kid playing Merlin? Is he, y'know, 'special'? Because he looks like a retard. When I imagine Merlin, I don't imagine him as a nerd with a bowl cut.

It was OK. Not brilliant but it wasn't a disaster either.

Nerd is in now. I blame US teen movies and bands like the Kooks.

Which begs the question, what place is there for nerds?

After stumbling across Dungeons and Dragons 2 on TV the other week, I thought I'd seen the worst example of televisual fantasy action. The trailer for this however, did make me rethink this.

Is it the same production company that made Robin Hood etc? Because this is also poorly written BBC Saturday night rubbish.

I was wondering, did it go any way to explain how, you know, Merlin was meant to be this old man who manipulated King Arthur's birth? Because it looked to me like Merlin was suddenly Arthur's teenage school chum or something!!!

Haven't watched it but felt I had to comment. How can Merlin be Arthur's highschool chum? Blurgh....

The BBC just can't do dramas.

They aren't chums, more rivals. I guess it's a different take on the legends...

I quite enjoyed it. I was half expecting Richard Wilson to deliver his classic line.

Between this and 'Hole In The Wall' it's a wonder anybody bothers even watching telly on a Saturday. In fact it's surprising nobody has yet taken a shotgun to their TV.

The BBC just can't do dramas.

It's depressing. The US comes out with several brilliant shows every year, even the trash is usually entertaining, and the best we can manage is shit like this. Even their more serious output is absolute bollocks. And maybe I lack the switch in my brain that enables me to watch stuff made for kids, but Dr Who is an embarrassment. I'm sure the old series weren't that bad, but maybe it's just a case of rose-tinted glasses.

We're not even making decent comedy anymore. When Peep Show isn't airing the funniest thing on terrestrial channels is a show about a guy making prank calls in a series of ridiculous voices. Has anyone seen the Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse sketch show 'Harry and Paul'? Unbelievably atrocious. It's a comedy black hole.

The BBC are so frightened of offending any one group or race that they can't do anything remotely challenging. It'll get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

Murphy's Law is awesome. Outside of that I struggle. The odd good one here and there.

Dr. Who isn't that bad; it is generally pretty entertaining and there are some good episodes.

I've not seen Merlin yet and I had some high hopes for it before I saw the trailer... :S

News, Documentaries, Murphys Law, Clocking off, and the occasional belter. Not exactly 140 per years worth (mandatory as well, which hurts).
