Dow opens in half an hour, right? Lots of nervous people on their way in to work there, no doubt...

Use your head and it could be 12k by the end of the day. That said, it could also be 12...

TBH you could probably do a touch more than 12k.

And probably a lot worse than 12...

Actually, if I *did* have cash right now then today wouldn't be the day I'd be playing.

Nope, that's the technologies one in the US. I think the Japanese one is the Nikkei and the Chinese the Hang Seng, but either or both might be villains from Big Trouble In Little China...

Question: WHen you sell... you're obviously selling to *someone*

What if no-one wants to buy?

Drop the price until they do. In fact, the price is dynamic for just that reason - it's the level at which people are willing to take the shares off your hands. Albeit that's grossly oversimplified.

    Edit: Bill's fast today innit.

That's what I thought it might be.

So it's not a case of "I'm selling at 2.50" it's a case of I'm selling at "2.50 or lower until someone buys" then.

    Nascar is the racing.

Now would be a good, if very risky, time to acquire some very cheap banking shares. A lot of the banks have too much cash reserves to just go bankrupt.

There needs to be car racing involved. To the death. First to finish gets the best prices. Coke and champagne mandatory for all traders / contestants.

Exactly. Stock values aren't the value that people are selling at - they're the value people are buying for. If you see what I mean.

I'm going to pimp RBS shares, lowest ever ever ever and we got our rights issue away (unlike HBoS) and have finished our write downs (touch wood).

I'll say HBoS are a good buy because my brother works in the treasury department and he says thing are fine and they have more than enough cash reserves.

If there are more than enough cash reserves, why did they ask for billions more from their shareholders?

HBoS shares on back on the way down. Although have about 0.0000000000001% exp about this, I'd say that's right given that the US opens in 15 mins? Everyone wanting to free up cash for what happens over there?

He works in for the Irish subsidiary which have separate accounts.

So your recommendation is to buy shares because the Irish division has sufficient reserves? Can't help but think there may be a bigger picture in the background you're missing.

I wonder how good that government-backed savings guarantee will prove to be if Lehmans drags a few UK banks down with it. A few volunteered to be eaten by the Nationwide recently, presumably because of cash-flow rather than debt.
