    I suppose this counts as travel... so in this section it goes!

    My missus wants to visit Cadbury World this weekend for some obscure reason so I'm looking for some other things to do while I'm up near Brummigan. Anyone know of any nice hotels to stay in (~4 star), decent places to eat (that don't need booking 6 months in advance) and some other things we can do while we're up there?

    Will be there Friday night to Sunday evening so don't have a whole lot of time but can probably fit in a few things. Thanks in advance. :)

    Cadburys is ace. Keep an eye out for the cream egg shaped buggies (if they're still there)

    Actually... the last two times I went to Birmingham haven't ended well at all. First time I got into a fight because I didn't want to buy drugs and the second time some clown tried to mug me.

    I haven't spent any time there for ages I'm afraid. Canal side is always worth a look though, lots of nice little places around there

    Yes. And no. In that order. I stayed there for one night when I had a job up there for a couple of days. It was cheap and had free WiFi which I needed. It was fine at night when I got there, but a bit depressing in the morning when there's no daylight. I also asked if it was okay to get one of their disabled access rooms when I checked in and they were absolutely fine with it as they were all empty - about twice the size of room.

    Only mentioned it for a laugh, not suggesting you go there! Good for stopovers and not much else.

    Sorry Pete, I just begrudge the place as it's the 2nd largest city in the UK when it's quite clear that Manchester > London, let alone Birmingham. ;)

    Fuck at all the birmingham hate! It's not that bad guys come on :p I am struggling a bit to come up with what you can do though apart from go see whatever is on at the IMAX or something. Could always go see a show at some point and there are millions of lovely restaurants all over the place too. If you think you'll want/need directions to anywhere it's where I live at uni so I know my way around.

    Oh, and seriously hotel people. If you're going to charge me £175 a night for a room you'd better make sure that free on-site parking is included or you can just fuck off on principal.

    It's half decent yeah :) I went years ago though so it'll probably be better now. You always want (if it's a niceish day) to go walking down the canals area which is quite pretty.

    Birmingham is no longer the shit hole it once was. This hotel is in Brindley Place which is a really nice part of the main city part of Birmingham.

    No actually, once you pay £175 a night, you've indicated that you're either filthy rich or travelling for business. either way, you won't mind forking out an extra charge for parking, £20 for breakfast and £6 for a pint in the bar.

    Yeah but in Manchester: it always rains, everyone carries a gun and are constantly killing one another, all the pubs only sell Boddingtons (which is shit), the whole town is dirty and grimy and the women are all slappers.
