    from that it says:
Google announced Monday that it has been hard at work on an open-source browser known as Chrome, a beta version which will be broadcast in 100 countries on Tuesday.
Thank God for that. I was searching for download links. I wish I read the article now. :)

Are you sure the font rendering isn't specific to Safari and not WebKit?

I am not, after all I haven't used Google Chrome yet :) I just assumed that it was the rendering engine and not some Safari modification of it. But then again I haven't used Safari for a very long time. I tried it pretty much a week after it was released only to find out that not even completely CSS and W3C compliant sites looked correctly (like the vbulletin forum for example).

I'm sure it is not as bad today as it was back then but I still don't see the need for yet another browser on the Windows platform. Safari on Windows seems like all the half-arsed Mac products by Microsoft. They do exist but I don't really see those products doing anything but causing unnecessary problems.

That's true, it's still a problem though because when you have images with fonts then you can clearly see the difference. The worse part is that there is no way to influence font rendering at all in any browser to make fonts look the same in every browser.

Not true! This will fix webkit:

    text-shadow: 0 0 0 #000;

It's not CSS2.1 compliant but it does the trick nicely. Shame it has to be used at all though.

I can't wait to give Chrome a go, it sounds excellent. I'm just hoping it doesn't take much to get it going with our web app at work (which is standards based, so should be ok).

The best thing about it though is that it might finally get people to move away from IE6 and to a lesser extent, 7. If we can get IE6 users to under 10% we can seriously consider dropping support from most websites, that would be a joyous day.

Accept and install. It does nothing. Downloading that file in the other link just downloads a tiny file. Surely the installer can't be so small?

It's a web installer, it downloads the browser as it's installing. It's not big.

    yeah its odd

I just tried the page in IE7 and the download page does not render due to a Javascript error...

Maybe this is all a publicity stunt to point out how crappy other browsers are?

haha the made-for-pron-surfing "Incognito" mode is pretty funny, see these warnings:

Going incognito doesn't affect the behaviour of other people, servers or software. Be wary of:
Websites that collect or share information about you
Internet service providers or employers that track the pages that you visit
Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys
    Surveillance by secret agents
    People standing behind you
