WTF? I used to love chrome but now it's shit. Pages not loading or taking a really long time to load. Even iexplore runs faster than chrome now. :/ It's absolutely shite. I've tried reinstalling it, disabling all my extensions, running scans for malware, disabling network prediction, all sorts... nothing has made it any better.

I'm considering moving over to chromium or firefox. Or even iexplore if I get really desperate. :/

Chrome has got so freaking terrible in the last few years. Only reason I still use it is because there are some extensions I can't find anywhere else (Firefox devs, is it so hard to make a small pop-up window for feeds reading without having to open an entire new tab?). Even Explorer is faster right now. People need to update all those internet joke pictures.

Takes the piss, I'm too comfortable with chrome to make the switch though. I wish they would sort it out. :/

I only switched from Firefox to chrome a few months ago because Firefox had gotten tediously slow. Chrome still seems lightning fast to me...

I switched from Chrome to FF a few months back due to speed issues. FF takes longer to open, but more responsive once running. Chrome sapped RAM with multiple tabs open.

Are fonts rendering differently for anybody else today?

There was a new version released a few days ago, v37. It "improved" font rendering but only if you have font smoothing and ClearType enabled (which for me personally is a headache-inducing abomination). The downside is that a lot of pages look horrible without ClearType.

Apologies for the bump but it might be useful: you can disable DirectWrite in Chrome by changing the flag under chrome://flags/#disable-direct-write (as described here).

Didn't happen to have any right now but creating a new one and using it seems to work fine. Maybe you need to make them again? :/

I use Cleartype but the new font still looks horrible. It's like the spacing is all wrong. Thanks for that disabling trick, now it looks good again. I'll re-enable it when Google gets their stuff together.

Maybe you should try typing the things you post into the large search bar on that new tab page.

You can assign permanent sites, that's the whole point of the speed dial.

I presume you can't manually set speed dials to specific sites
    You can.

You can, but it's a pain in the butt. It's easier to use the Speed Dial 2 extension, which essentially makes it look like the new tabs page in Opera.

Just updated Chrome? Not happy with your name top right? Go here: chrome://flags and change "Enable the new Avatar menu" to Disabled, then relaunch.

    You're welcome.
