European Ryder Cup team confirmed this evening:
    Padraig Harrington (Ire)
    Lee Westwood (Eng)
    Sergio Garcia (Spa)
    Henrik Stenson (Swe)
    Robert Karlsson (Swe)
    Miguel Angel Jimenez (Spa)
    Graeme McDowell (N Ire)
    Justin Rose (Eng)
    Soren Hansen (Den)
    Oliver Wilson (Eng)
    Ian Poulter (Eng)
    Paul Casey (Eng)

    US team:
    Phil Mickelson
    Steve Stricker
    Stewart Cink
    Jim Furyk
    Anthony Kim
    Kenny Perry
    Justin Leonard
    Ben Curtis
    Boo Weekley
    Hunter Mahan
    Chad Campbell
    JB Holmes

Casey was a shoe-in for a wildcard given his form in the US this season, but Poulter is the big suprise after his average season, arrogant attitude to the selection and with Clarke winning last week and bags of Ryder Cup experience. I guess you could argue that with the US team looking extremely weak this year, it's an opportunity for a young European team to get an easy victory under their belts and gel with 2010 in mind.

Monty obviously was never going to get in - particularly once Faldo realised Monty was only 2 points behind Faldo's record total of 25 :)

Yeah, Iwas surprised at Poulter as well, but to be fair, if he's on his game, he's got the skills to match his mouth.

I've never made an official thread before, so can someone merge Dougs's thread with this, given it was started 9 hours old AND is the wrong year anyway... x

My official ball-marker and pitchfork tool in a holster (Link) just turned up.

It's very VERY well made and absolutely gorgeous! If you're after something to commemorate this year's event, or actually use it, it's well worth the money IMO.

What are the odds on a USA win? I've got a horrible feeling they will win it. Faldo is a negetive force.

Unfortunately, I don't share your thoughts on a USA win. Their team is really poor (they didn't have much to choose from), and even if they had Tiger to choose, he's not really a fourball player.

I think Europe will walk it, by some distance. Which is unfortunate because it's important for the competition for the USA to be in contention, otherwise the (US) public will grow disinterested.

Quite surprised at Poulter's inclusion, but I'm glad that arrogant ignorant big-moobed cunt Montgomerie wasn't picked.

Yeah, really should have been Clarke.

Darren Clarke is a top bloke and his performance last time was incredible (he had me blubbing at the end, too), but what's his form been like recently?

Excellent. Won a couple of weeks back and hitting top form...unlike that tit Poulter.

He won a tournament recently. I Would of picked him over Poulter.

USA best odds for a win = 11/8.

Hmmm, that's a shame. Well, Poulter had better play bloody well is all I can say :)

Leading for a lot of the Johnnie Walker. Good form generally throughout 08. Bit of a surprise not to be called up, particularly after last time.

I think this will be a classic going down to the last few singles games.

I'd love us to win convincingly... But I think the US team will surprise a lot of people.

    Hope we stuff the Yanks.

Serves them right for not selling me tickets! Bastards!

In a recent survey 6 out of 7 dwarfs said they weren't happy.

Would it be wrong to develop an illness tomorrow? I'm feeling a bit peaky.

I was actually ill two years ago today and sent home from work to stop infecting people...which was cracking timing.

Anyone seen all this shit about photos of Faldo's team 'notes' which allegedly give away the pairings for tomorrow?

Merlinho - you are looking a bit pale, so I'd go home early this afternoon and stay away from the office tomorrow, just to be sure ;)

It's on the guardian front page. He denied it first but then accepted it. Garcia and Westwood, Harrington and Karlsson then underneath that are Justin Rose, Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell and Paul Casey, underneath that are Oliver Wilson, Soren Hanson and Miguel Angel Jimenez. For some reason Henrik Stenssons name wasn't there.

    Stupid mistake from Faldo though.

    Ahhhh, I see.

Hmmm, might have to see if that works in the office. Only trouble is, I've heard rumours that our IT department is monitoring staff internet activity because someone discovered that A LOT more bandwidth is being used than is necessary ...
