    link

Apologies if there's a thread for this already, did a search, couldn't find one. Sounds quite handy to me.

    *EDIT*

Yet to successfully link on the first try :/

I thought there was a bigger thread on Vidzone but I can't find it. Everything has been quiet on this for a while but SCEE have posted details on it here saying it's coming soon. It's a music video streaming app, remote play compatible, Europe exclusive, and should be worth a look.

    edit: linkslol

OK so its coming today but I have a couple of queries :

(from the article comments page) If this all works out it's massive. FREE music! Although i'm still not sure about the full terms. Once you DL VidZone does the media get DL'ed as well or do you just stream it to the PS3 on a per song basis. Therefore you never really "own" the music just borrow it. And if this is the case, whats the buffering / compression going to be like? You tube vids on the PS3 browser although functional are small and do require some buffering.

As far as i can tell it's free for streaming, so therefore has to buffer, but you can also buy them which i presume means downloading them. There was definately a buy button in one of the trailers anyway. As for file size/ quality i have no idea but reckon the brought downloads would be higher resolution maybe 1080p. As for the streams... who knows?

Just watched a this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eb510vqn1YY&eurl=http://in.truveo.com/vidzone-ps3-handson/id/473828716&feature=player_embedded Youtube vid about it. Looks ACE. Streaming / buffering is gonna be dependent on the quality / speed of your internet connection. Also, I'm slightly concerned about the regional aspect of this aswell. Although It looks like "Europe" is supported, I'd be surprised if we here in Cyprus get the same treatment. We don't even get access the PlayStation Store without a UK / US / HK account hack.

jjolley posted a vid on the comments page (as jerrymanu posted above) to Gamespot UK, they have no plan to add HD videos so SD only for now.

If they did add them they would probably charge for them, free to stream but there was a 'buy' button in one vid i saw too, apart from d/ling it to watch you can only have it as a ringtone. Not sure on price though.

Considering we can already access Youtube and Myspace on the PS3 this isn't really that much different. It gives you a marketplace and hopefully better quality music and video.

True, but hasn't Youtube stripped all the music vids?

Surely they wouldn't charge for something that was free with Windows 95?

    Still waiting...
  • Deleted user 11 June 2009 14:08:34
It'll update around the same time as the playstation store I'd imagine.

To me this sounds like another good feature that will get me using the PS3 a little bit more.
I know sometimes I'm busy doing other things and would just like a bit of music/music video's in the background. Say if friends were over, I'd usually make a playlist on my PC and stream it through the PS3, this way I could make a playlist on the PS3 and also let other people request different songs.

I know my GF will enjoy checking it out when she's bored too.

If this is being released in only certain European countries, that would imply that the European PSN store is broken up into different territories.
If that is the case why does the UK have to wait for translations etc. for all of Europe before content is released.
Surely it could be on par with the US PSN store?

The European PSN store does have different content depending on the country.

The reason you have to wait is because it is easier for the developer to put out one 'release' for a region rather than multiple releases.
So why not make the UK store more like the US store? Thats what i want to know

    THE PS3 REMOTE DOESN'T WORK!!

How lame is that!? Especially for an app like this.
  • Deleted user 11 June 2009 15:28:33

Isn't that a blu ray remote, lol.

Wonder if you've ever tried playing a game with it.

I don't think you understand, the remote is for the Blu ray player.
I was making a reference to your stupidity.

I've installed mine and just had a look at the Kasabian video that was on the front page. It buffers but was quick.

My issue is the feckin load up time of the application. Takes ages! Let me know if you suffer the same. Sony likes looooong loading times dont they!

No, actually you've just highlighted your own stupidity and retardedness.

The PS3/Blu-Ray remote works to control all non-gaming aspects of the PS3. Including The PS Store, XMB, all video/music playback, PlayTV.

    BUT NOT THIS.

    lol..thought you meant remote play

won't be able to check it out until about 8ish...how is it so far?
mostly importantly how fast does it stream? streaming porn is a pain in the arse on the PS3, keeps freezing up..putting me off my game

I'm just booting it up now to have a look.
Takes a while to initialise, guess the servers are probably busy, then it updates the vidzone catalogue which seems to take around a minute.
Updating music video feeds which has sprung up an error for me, I can see the service being a bit rocky for the first week or so knowing Sony's usual application launches well.

I've quit out and loaded it up again from scratch but it's still a slow loading service clocking in at around 2 minutes just to load up. I have since also had another server busy error which I can see plaguing today/tomorrow so i'd probably ignore this services existance for a while.

It's a clunky and ugly interface if you ask me, doesn't seem well designed to get what your looking for music wise. The video feed quality is also around SD, probably slightly sub that. Occasional Virgin Media add's appear at the bottom but I consider that forgivable for a free service.
Playlist building is pretty straightforward, select the song you want to play, then each song selected thereafter is on the playlist. Moving playlists around also appears straightforward but there doesnt seem to be a way to save your now playing list as an actual playlist itself.

Delays between tracks seem a sure thing at the moment, had another one of those friendly error messages pop up between tracks and it took about 2 minutes to change song. Like I say, I'd leave this a few days before diving in for a seamless experience.

I'd give it 5/10, bumped up to 7.5/10 as its a free service, still I think its a pretty ugly interface to use considering as has been mentioned there are plenty of other free services out there already. It's the playlist building that will set this apart from say, YouTube though, which has become increasingly difficult to find tracks on.
  • Deleted user 11 June 2009 16:06:55
This time it's shifted tracks straight away, no delay.
My tv is 42" and there are large black borders around the outside of the video which is 28" widescreen view.
Once your playlist this just becomes a better version of The Hits really, there are premade playlists on the frontpage if your feeling lazy too, like 'Sexiest Video's' and '80's'.

I can see this as being something I'll probably use a couple of times a week as long as they improve the server delay times and start-up is much quicker, which i presume it will be once the service has been up for longer than a few days.
  • Deleted user 11 June 2009 16:13:38
The program seems to store the tracks on your PS3 so once you've played it after a short delay loading up you can quickly fast/forward rewind the song.
