Mine arrived yesterday but won't get to see it until the weekend.

    Looking forward to it.

    An American Werewolf In London

It’s better than the DVD, but not by much. The film is getting on a bit now, but so is Jaws, and look how good the Jaws Blu-ray looks. As we know, they gave the Jaws Blu-ray ***** treatment.

While the Blu-ray benefits from higher resolution, the picture looks brighter. Somehow the muted brightness of the DVD works better. I got the impression part of the Blu-ray process might have involved too much auto contrast.

Something I did notice on the Blu-ray which I have never noticed in the past (on Vhs and DVD) is during the scene that see’s the Werewolf appear from a tunnel on the London Underground at the bottom of an escalator. The front and rear paws can be seen, followed by a split second of a human foot. It gives the impression there’s someone walking right behind the Werewolf, which there is. A slight Goof there.
Yeah, I have the Jaws BR and it is pretty impressive. Vibrant colours, great sound and some interesting bonus material. I've also seen the American Werewolf BR and its not great. Film's always been a favourite of mine though.

We watched Skyfall last night. Looks and sounds fabulous on Blu-ray. Really showed off my new speakers very well.

First time I'd seen the film too and wife and I absolutely loved it. Brilliant.

Got Skyfall, was watching it then started to think hmm not a great transfer then realised I put the DVD version in the player instead of the Blu Ray :)

Looks like there's (yet) another release of the original Star Wars trilogy imminent on blu-ray. This time a steel book version.

    HERE

Yes, I may have pre-ordered that the other day. To be fair a mate borrowed my BRs and never gave them back. Plus I'm a sucker for a steel book and the artwork is sexy.

There's a new trilogy one as well for those inclined.

Must admit, the artwork is very nice. Far better than the 9 disk box set I had on release.

Tempted to sell my Complete Saga and get this one instead. I don't even know why I bought it when I loath the prequels and will never watch them again.

Did anyone else buy THIS set on release?

    Notice the price...£129.99.

That was the one I had...complete with the film cell. Didn't realize it was selling for silly money.

Just because something is selling for silly money, doesn't mean people are paying silly money.

If you search for all the Steelbook editions of films on Amazon there's a few selling for crazy amounts. It's almost like a glitch or something. Nobody is paying that.

Yeah that's the one I have. I thought the film cell would be unique, but they're all the same and it's from Ep. III anyway. Huge disappointment.

Is this region rating a mistake or something? I thought A/1 was America-only, but this is being sold by amazon.co.uk. PS3 is region locked, isn't it?

    /new to blu-ray

PS3 isn't locked in terms of BD regions, just games. Blu-ray.com will tell you what is universal or not.

Edit: seems they haven't tested it yet.

I thought the PS3 was region locked? Has that changed recently?

Depends on the disc I thought. If it just Region A then it won't work, but most/lots work across all regions.

Edit: so yeah, you're right, the ps3 is locked but but studios seem more open than on DVD. Had a funny 5 mins there

The exact opposite is true. The PS3 is region locked for films, it is not region locked for games.

Finished watching the newly released Red River restoration published by Wild Side in France. For those who haven't seen it, it's Howard Hawks' first Western (released in 1948 but shot in 1946, just after The Big Sleep), Montgomery Clift's first starring role and one of John Wayne's finest, most ambiguous performance. It also features Walter Brennan, in classic congenial mode, and the great Hank Worden (of later Twin Peaks fame).
As per Hawks' obsessions and theme, it's a movie about men being men and doing a hard job, with an extra topping of Oedipus complex that's light enough to give the film some mythological push while not making a melodrama of things. It's the American Epic of Beef, if you will (this being the story of the Chisholm Trail, whatever it may be), and a very brilliant film that looks as stunning as one couls hope for.
    Much recommended !

Yeah, see my edit. I was all confuddled by rugby and booze.

I got the Dick Tracy Bluray on import (it's region free if anyone's interested).

Transfer is great. It's a lovely looking film and the BR really does it justice.

Good shout, just picked that up. Sell my SP to make up the difference as well.

Just seen Hannibal Trilogy as well for £8

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

I don't have a recommendation: I just want to vent about The Village not being available on bluray.

    Baaaaah.

I finally watched Lawrence of Arabia a month or so ago. Can't remember if I posted it about it already. But suffice it to write it's an amazing movie, I didn't really appreciate its masterfulness when I watched it years and years ago. And it looks unbelievable on a big screen. Epic in every sense.

Great review for Evil Dead 2

Not seen this in years so will pick this up as soon as it comes out.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Rear Window finally released as a standalone title on May 13th. Assuming it's the same disc as on the collection it's meant to be an excellent transfer :)
