It looks as though it's in violation of the VRA. Don't know what that means but basically it's down to the retailer as to if you get you can get your money back if you want.

Apparently not, seems that the text on the BBFC web site was for the cinema release. A balls-up on their behalf basically, here's today's update:

    http://www.bbfc.co.uk/newsreleases/2012/09/bbfc-statement-marvel-avengers-assemble-dvdblu-ray/

It still doesn't excuse Disney though - we've now got a release that doesn't match what we saw in cinemas due to a bit of petty editing.

Stick to the US release, you then also get Whedon's commentary track.

Piss poor all around from Disney on this, combined with the lack of extras, all of the different 'special' versions from assorted supermarkets, etc.

The BBFC have responded about the rating issue.

I think it's time to check what the returns policy of Sainbury's Entertainment is as I think I may send my sealed copy back.

    edit: too slow!

It is a small point (no pun intended), but I just hate being treated like a child by these people, its spear tip protruding or no sale for me.

Why are Disney being so cheap and not including a DVD with the Blu-ray copy?

First The Muppets, and now this. Don't they see how handy it is to have the DVD as well if you have kids?
Because kids can't see the extra pixels?

It's a nanny state gone mad is what it is.

No commentary and less superhero film is surely win/win no?

There is a point of principle of course, I agree.

Is the issue that we don't have a 12A certificate for home releases? I assume Disney were worried that if they left the spear tip in then it might get upped to a 15.

Nope they're both apparently the same (except in extreme cases, which the spear tip isn't).

Although I'm fed up about The Avengers, I'm watching Jaws and The Shark Is Still Working tonight, which I'm fucking excited about. Now if they would just bring out The 'Burbs on Blu-Ray the world would make sense- 'smells like someones cooking a goddamn cat over there'.

Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (2010) 4/10

“THE HORROR FILM OF THE YEAR”
says Billy Chainsaw, Bizarre (I’ve never heard of him either)

    The intro credits look great.
Audio would suite something epic (which this film isn’t)
Production values are high (it has all the polish of a modern Batman movie)
The Cgi creatures (mini monkeys/rat/chameleons) are convincing enough.

I expected lots from this Blu-ray. Something similar to a classic Italian horror. As the film dragged on, the reoccurring question, what’s this films purpose kept cropping up. What story there is, is simply naff. Was the script useless, or was Guy Pearce useless. The way he acts towards his daughter, the way he speaks to her seemed so unreal. For a film that claims to be horror, its never once scary, spooky or gory. It felt more like a Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings fantasy type film will no tale to tell.

    Not recommended.

Meh, Amazon gave me a quid back as a pre-order guarantee, reasonably happy with the trade off. £12 is bargainous, spear or no spear.

    Lenticular, my uneducated friend.

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

Can't understand why people buy James Bond box sets. Doesn't it bother you that it'll be incomplete as soon as the next Bond film comes out?

Not to mention the utter dross that some of those films are.

    @kalel

With Bond, the normal rules don't apply.

It doesn't bother me about other films coming out and making the previous box-set "invalid". Looking at the number of sequels coming soon and next year (the year of sequels) you're never going to win. I'll just buy the next one on a normal BR disc.

As for the dross in the Bond films? Well, you kind of have a point. But even A View To A Kill has got some redeeming features.

You must be an agent of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. :-)

Well, it's good for one more film at least.

The Bond set is pretty cheap too for a set, less than £5 a film. I bought them all as they came out on DVD and that was back in the day of Tower Records charging £20.

If they were available separately I would buy most (if not all) of them anyway. Certainly more than 10 of them, and I couldn't see them being anything less than £10 each.

Speaking of cheap, Zavvi have the (possibly flawed depending on how much Universal decide to fix during the delay) Hitchcock set available for pre-order at £69.95, almost half the RRP: http://www.zavvi.com/blu-ray/alfred-hitchcock-the-masterpiece-collection/10629733.html

@fletch7100 You'll have to let me know if it's worth getting on Blu-ray. I've not seen it yet and am on the fence about getting it on dvd or b-ray.
