Look up what they had to do with star trek: TNG to transfer it to blu-ray.

Its an expensive old process, so anything that isnt guaranteed to sell a boat load will never be transferred.

Yeah, they're usually few and far between as most effects are psychical, although it's a great and convenient excuse for producers not to bring these programmes to BD
Buffy had some horrendous cgi even under the blurry film of SD.
Wouldn't watch that shit with your eyes so I'll take your word for it.

I discovered this morning that I pre-ordered this. Glad it's costing me a few quid less!

My 6 disc Avenger's set arrived this morning and it's a nice box but cheekily they've just taken disc 1 (labelled) from Iron Man 2 and put it in the set.

I pre-ordered it ages ago and my shipping date is Sept 24th. I just walked into a shop and saw it on sale. Cancelled my order now and will pick it up tomorrow. What's going on Amazon.

Ooooh I think I bundled it with Cabin in the Woods and told it to do it as one shipment.

Still weird, it's been in the shops for a while here.

Looks like the Hitchcock collection may be delayed By a month. Reason being some" imperfections have come to light and need time to correct them"

Delay only confirmed in the US so far, but it'd be terrible if they go ahead with the UK release on the back of the faults seen so far (see link to Criterion forum on last page). Robert Harris (who was behind some of the Hitchock DVD restorations) has now also weighed in with his disappointment.

Are the Tarantino films just repackaged or are they remastered? I ask because I love True Romance but I remember reading the BR transfer is one of the worst out there.

Disney are getting some major heat over the UK release - the Blu-Ray version doesn't have a DVD copy and is missing a number of features including the commentary from Whedon - there's also reports a certain scene has been edited for no obvious reason and that's causing the BBFC to look into things.

It's the scene edit that's caused the most ruckus. So, they'll have to withdraw it and reissue it? Perhaps then they'll have enough time to put the other special features in it.

Yeah, the spear tip protruding from Agent Coulson's chest has been digitally removed. This happens to mean that the version released on DVD/Blu-ray does NOT match the version that the BBFC approved (which had the spear tip intact as it should be). This is, in a nutshell, not allowed.

However, Disney UK say that we the viewers are mistaken, and that the cinematic release also had the spear tip removed:

    http://www.homecinemachoice.com/news/article/marvel%27s-avengers-assemble-blu-ray-censorship-row-disney-uk-speaks-out/13225

Even IF that was the case, it doesn't get around the fact that Disney have released a version that the BBFC have not rated.

I saw the film 5 times. The spear was there, The BBFC will have the original cut anyhow.

The bbfc has to rate the film separately on each format its released on, so the BD/dvd release would have been submitted separately.

By the way, the spear was in the cinema cut of the film, the bbfc has a detailed listing from when they rated it.

A slightly stronger moment occurs when a man is stabbed through the back by the chief villain's spear. The detail of the impact is not shown, only the tip of the spear protruding from the man's chest with a small amount of blood on it. The image is not dwelt upon and serves an important narrative purpose.

No way am I buying a bowdlerised copy of The Avengers, not to mention the paucity of extras. Bloody poor show old beans.

It looks as though it's in violation of the VRA. Don't know what that means but basically it's down to the retailer as to if you get you can get your money back if you want.

I don't know what I'm going to do just yet. I've ordered the US (region free) version as the UK Box Set is very nice indeed. I may end up with two versions.

Why are Disney being so cheap and not including a DVD with the Blu-ray copy?

First The Muppets, and now this. Don't they see how handy it is to have the DVD as well if you have kids?

When you can't see the angles on the wall you're in trouble.

I also got the Avengers boxset blu-ray but am watching them through in order of release so haven't watched The Avengers yet, not that i'd have noticed anyway. What I don't get is why the Iron Man discs are Disc 1. I thought Blu-ray's had enough memory to not need a 2nd disc for special features? Disc 1 has some special features on them anyway so it's not a huge deal.

When did it become normal for Blu-rays to come with a standard DVD copy as well? That to me just seems generous.

Off to watch Iron Man 2 now!

They do disc 1 and 2 so that they can sell cheaper and more expensive versions if they want to.

That's slightly annoying, but the chances of me noticing or caring about the edit are pretty slim and I virtually never watch the extras. As long as the PQ is the same, I don't think I'll be stressing too much.
