@captainrentboy - yeah, cheers for the heads up. Just ordered Sainsbury's version of Avengers for £12.99.

    They Live coming to BR

As with all Carpenter BR, it's loaded with goodies.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One Collection delayed to 2013 - the manufacturers of the briefcase have issued a lawsuit, as apparently Disney had permission to use it in the film but not as part of the Blu-ray release...

    Jaws (1975) 10/10

Great film. The Blu-ray looks unbelievable. There’s no picture wobble, no dirt, very impressive for a film from 1975.

There's a guy on the Criterion forum with an advance review copies of the Hitchock collection, going through them one by one. Unfortunately it seems the treatment on some discs is less than careful, but fortunately they seems to have done a good job with the vitals: he's impressed with Vertigo and Shadow of a Doubt, and (most importantly to me as it's my favourite film) Rear Window gets the thumbs up \o/

So it sounds as though it's best to avoid the £100 collection, and instead cherry pick the best. Good in some ways, as I've no desire to get another copy of Family Plot any time soon...

Anyone know why Buffy has never made it to bluray? The fanbase is still pretty large so kinda seems like it'd be just printing money. Is it technical reason's like how The Shield can't be BR'd either?

    /obligatory "cause it's shit"

@Flightrisker it was shot in 480i, which would look pretty crappy if upscaled to HD. Same reason we'll never get The Wire on blu-ray :(

Edited on tape you mean, pretty sure both where shot on film or at least 16mm.

Not really, they can re-edit them, that's what they did with Friends and other gay american programmes.

The HD versions of Friends they've been showing on Comedy Central are pretty impressive. I guess it just comes down to the potential sales justifying the cost.

Yay, minority sexual orientation as an insult! So cool!

Would it still have been an insult if he was referring to Glee or Will & Grace as they are undeniably gay shows?

They're not though. Having a character who is gay does not make the subject matter of your show "gayness".

Queer as Folk and The L Word are gay (as a genre). Will and race and Glee are not.

To further complicate things there's also the issue that the special effects would probably have to be re-composited at the newer, larger resolution. I'd image any effects were implemented at the broadcast resolution.

Yeah, they're usually few and far between as most effects are psychical, although it's a great and convenient excuse for producers not to bring these programmes to BD

I'm simply unable to let these things go :) Casual -isms are my kryptonite. But in a way that just makes me post rebuttals on an internet forum as opposed to vomiting green shit from my mouth.

Buffy had some horrendous cgi even under the blurry film of SD.

Not if he was using the word gay to mean "homosexual" as opposed to using the word gay to mean "shit".
