I agree he shouldn't have been sent but he NEEDS to stand trial in the UK for his crimes.

He can't get away with it.

    Good.
Now stick him on trial here, give him some meaningless sentence to be carried out in some low security prison hospital then quietly give him a job in a few years.
Anyone who can access another nations government computer system needs to be on our payroll.
He got csught ten years ago, so hes rubbish and his skillz are out if date. Plus, who would hire someone with aspergers?

Ah, I love the smell of tolerance and equal opportunities. It's not like he's a plague bearing wretch or something. Look it up and educate yourself you idiot.

So which other crimes can you get away with if you have aspergers?

Good. Obviously he did something wrong, but he did it here and the punishment being proposed was insanely out of proportion.

My son has now been under arrest for longer than any British citizen ever has. He hasn't raped anyone, he hasn't murdered anyone, so can't understand how this can be happening to him, as no matter how much anyone may choose to exaggerate his crime, the fact is that his crime was tapping on a keyboard in his bedroom in north London in search of information on aliens from outer space.
I basically agree with what his mother wrote above. I think he's probably been punished enough already.

I don’t have to. At one time or another this site has been subjected to every link on the internet that even mentions the word.

It might be worth reading one or two of them rather than seeing the link and psychically taking on board all the knowledge at the other end

Aside from the personal impact on the guy, this forum bar thing which May proposed certainly seems like a good direction to go in.

Judging by the sentence construction, I assume you are ‘one of them’?

Isn't the crime hacking the system? What you are looking for once you're in is irrelevant.

Also: isn't any aspect of your personality 'central to the whole thing and deciding the right course of action'?

This is the thing. Was he only looking for UFOs? Who knows.

“You are accused, Iqbal Mohammed, convicted member of Al Qeada, of hacking the pentagon mainframe to gain information on CIA agents posted in Afghanistan. How do you plead?”

“Not guilty. I was looking for UFOs”

I don't get the personality issue argument. As discussedgenius says, surely it is the case for EVERY crime that your personality and situation has resulted you in carrying it out.

You murder someone. If you hadn't had such and such upbringing, been in such and such and situation and not had such and such personality traits you would have never been in that position.

Actually, the crime is connecting a military computer to the internet. Someone should be hung for that. Idiots.

The timing is interesting. If this had happened a fortnight ago then Abu Hamza might well have been travelling alone. Very glad to hear Gary isn't being deported, but some very bendy rules here.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Now that the brown people had been extradited, I guess the home secretary thought it prudent to step in to protect the non-brown publicity friendly one.

(Captain Hook was one of 4 people AFAIK who were extradited.)

i was about to say this.

Whilst i'm supportive of Gary cause - yet he does have to serve some sentence over here, its smacks of the government intervening to over-ride the justice system and say, one rule for you, another you - incidentally, one of the people deported with abu hamza also has been diagnosed with aspergers. what gives?
