    By the looks of it, it'll go over the 1.5 million mark without the PayPal donations anyway now - it's clocking up nicely still.

    Braben said in the Reddit AMA he wasn't a fan of the combat in Frontier either so I think we're safe from the lancing nonsense, none of which has been in the game footage we've seen so far.

    Happy they've made it but bugger me listening to Braben is a right buzz kill :D If Cliffy B or Tim Schafer had fronted this they would have made all the money. All of it.

    From what I can tell, Frontier had 28 purchasable ships. Elite 4 will have 25 now, apparently.

    To be honest, it could have two ships (goodies and baddies) and still be a better game than Frontier.

    Like going into an anarchy system with a hold full of narcotics and only a pulse laser up front it wasn't a great start but it somehow got through and docked.

    Hardly. By the end of day 2 it had made over a fifth of its target. It's just everyone else needed some evidence of work being done (which the dev diaries finally did) and then the threat of the impending deadline to move them in any great number.

    And for the vast majority of the Kickstarter it was bumping along the bottom doing nothing.

    Is it still possible to get involved with this or am I just waiting for the release date with everyone else now?

    I plan on getting the Oculus Rift the moment the consumer version hits the shelf for using with iRacing, using it in Elite sounds incredible too.

    I hoping to see some surprise showing of this at Nottingham GameCity in a couple of weeks. There is quite some history with David Braben.

    News of OR support is pretty awesome. I always enjoyed the multiple viewports if Elite and moreso XWing etc so thoughts of a full VR experience made me very happy.

    Looks like £200 is the minimum you need to pledge to get into the alpha.

    £200 was the minimum to get into the Alpha from the very beginning of the Kickstarter. I initially pledged £100 back when the KS campaign was ongoing, but I upped it another £100 last weekend, when they announced that the backing would be ending.

    From now on, regardless of how much you pledged, it will cost £200 to get into the Alpha if you pledged below that amount prior to the backers app closing.

    From all accounts so far on the Alpha forum, the game is looking really good.

    Yes. It would be great. The PC version comes first though, and then we will look at the demand for other platforms. If the game exceeds its target, then there will be scope to increase the number of platforms. We will discuss with the backers in the design discussion forum, and how to address the issues that will arise, but I have every hope that we will cover some or all of these platforms.
