Well, sure. Beats the current Kickstarter model: 'Hey everybody, would you like to buy something I might make? PS no refunds xxx'

LB, you really are a massive geek.

By the looks of it, it'll go over the 1.5 million mark without the PayPal donations anyway now - it's clocking up nicely still.

I'll pick this up in a Steam sale for a fiver if it turns out not to be shit or even gets made at all. Thanks, everyone. :)
I'll stick my neck out and say we'll see this during 2018. He'll have 7 programmers working on Newtonian physics alone.

Braben said in the Reddit AMA he wasn't a fan of the combat in Frontier either so I think we're safe from the lancing nonsense, none of which has been in the game footage we've seen so far.

Gone past the 1.5M mark and here's the final dev diary video with a very nice way of finishing off the Kickstarter campaign. :-)

It's like he's commentating on it live, having never seen the footage before.

Oooh, tessellating cargo! Be still my beating heart. Tell us about trading wheat again, Dave! Never mind the fact it's a dirty great spaceship made of awesome.

Happy they've made it but bugger me listening to Braben is a right buzz kill :D If Cliffy B or Tim Schafer had fronted this they would have made all the money. All of it.

15 playable ships? That sounds a little low
Elite is still one of the greatest games of all time, you had the massive choice of one.
I know, right! These kids today with all their choice grumble grumble...
Lol. But iirc didn't frontier elite 2 have that many ships?

I am expecting a better game than that.

From what I can tell, Frontier had 28 purchasable ships. Elite 4 will have 25 now, apparently.

To be honest, it could have two ships (goodies and baddies) and still be a better game than Frontier.

    And it's over!

    25,677 backers
    £1,578,166 pledged of £1,250,000 goal

Like going into an anarchy system with a hold full of narcotics and only a pulse laser up front it wasn't a great start but it somehow got through and docked.

Hardly. By the end of day 2 it had made over a fifth of its target. It's just everyone else needed some evidence of work being done (which the dev diaries finally did) and then the threat of the impending deadline to move them in any great number.

And for the vast majority of the Kickstarter it was bumping along the bottom doing nothing.
