    Some poster parodies.

Crocodile Dunblane... and he's coming for your Sheilas! Murray is transformed into the poster boy of the Australian Open

The Australian Open starts today, although the first round matches are shown here, in the UK, at midnight.

I have been to all four Grand Slams in person and there is something about being in Melbourne for a couple of weeks when the tennis is on ... more and more people gather around the Federation Square as the tournament goes on, which brings lots of people all over the world together!

The rivalry between Djokovic and Murray is always good to see, but they won't play against each other unless they both make it to the final. Oh, and it is a shame Nadal could not start his season here after having an injury layoff (for so long).

Anyone else watching/following these next two weeks with me...?

    : )
I'll be watching but tend to watch more of the 2nd week. Most of the early matches are very predictable. Always been a favourite of mine and it's the only Slam I've not been to.

Well done Robson! Now maybe some terrestrial channel will bloody get the rights to the second week so we can actually see some of this.

Great result for Robson but what on earth was Kvitova doing? Wimbledon champion a few years ago serving 18 double faults in a match.

Not a chance. A Brit would have to get to the final for terrestrial to pick it up and there's fat chance of that happening on the women's side.

@pistol IIRC, the beeb always has the final of both mens and womens at the ozzie open? Same with french I believe; it's only the US they don't show any of. I am suprised to see it only on Eurosport actually, thought it'd be all over Monopoly Sports 1-4

Great win by Robson. The standard at the end was shocking, Kvitova barely got a 1st serve in towards the end. Was painful to watch and she is a shadow of the player that won Wimbledon in 2011.

As for Robson she has a big game attitude. She has proven that no player scares her and she has the big game. I fancy her to break into the top 15 this year, the womens game isn't all that strong atm, it is basically Sereana (When I can be bothered) vs about 8 others who all have the ability to win a slam. I fancy Robson to be in that league very soon.

I have a sneaky feeling for mr Tomic to beat Fed. Anyone fancy this? He is now showing how good he can be, easily a top 10 player with huge talent, won his last 16 x matches and seems to have his head screwed on now after last years shambles.

Nah, but I think Tomic will win the first set and ruffle Federer's nerves for a little while ...

    ... and go, go Laura!

Only saw the highlights and goodness me, Kvitova was blooming terrible in the last ten-fifteen minutes although it kind of shows that Robson is up for it whoever she plays.

Not a bad start to this years tournament although no real shocks yet!

Tomic is going to get destroyed. I should perhaps be more supportive since he's Australian, but I cannot stand the little prick.

Federer is just too crafty to be beaten by someone with as little Grand Slam experience as Tomic.

Having said that, Federer opted not to play any warm up matches before the Aussie Open so that might prove his undoing.

Seems so many Aussies can't stand Tomic. I think the crowd will be more likely to back Fed. Tomic hasn't helped himself I agree but it seems his Dad is a utter prick and that was a big cause of the issue. I lost a lot of respect for him when he threatened to play for Croatia and turn his back on Aus even though he had gone through the system. He is young though and for me by far the best young talent out there with Raonic. I think he deserves another chance but some never forgive. There are plenty that hate Murray for his suppose anti English comment about the 2010 WC even though he was just joking and why the fuck should have to support England when he is Scottish just to please people.

I loved it a couple years ago when Tomic lost to Cilic and blamed it on having to stay up late.

Fed up by 2 sets now. Although Tomic didn't do so badly: 6-4, 7-6.

Still nowhere near close to actually beating federer though.

Tomic did well in the second set, but I'd say that was because of his home crowd support carrying him along more than anything ... and now, in the third (and possibly final) set, Federer is on autopilot and totally destroying Bernard.

Quite fancy Federer's chances this year if he beats Murray.

Tomic has no hope now. He never did, really.

I hope at least he is a gracious loser this time around.

Chardy (unseeded) beat Del Potro (sixth seeded) in five sets!

Raonic could cause an upset against Federer next. Roger seems to struggle against the big servers in recent years (Berdych and Tsonga in particular) and Raonic is hitting aces for fun in the tournament so far. Should be interesting.
