So this is supposed to be coming out this year on pc/ps3/360.

How likely is a 2008 release date? Ive heard nothing on it since last year.

Just to gauge, was the original delayed at all?

More news (and an in-game screenshot) here:

    http://www.bistudio.com/arma2.html

Look very much like an updated OpFlash game - especially if you look at the soldiers meshes and stances!

Got to say either this or the new Flashpoint are interesting me more than another COD/Battlefield. Maybe I'm just getting old but coming back to COD4 after a RROD prolonged absence found me getting my arse handed to me on a plate time and again. Looking forward to a more 'thinking' FPS hopefully without killcams and the rain of speculative grenades that had my name on them last night....

ArmA was a fine, fine game. However, it was very broken at launch and continues to be stiff and functional to the day. But for the sheer scope of the thing, I am very much looking forward to this.

How is ArmA now? I must be one of the thousands who bought it, realised it was full of bugs and shelved it

Erm, a heck of a lot better. But still a little clunky. The 1.14 patch has helped a lot, and the devs have now switch almost entirely to ArmA2 production, I gather, so its probably as stable as it is ever going to get.

Its worth returning to to see some of the brilliant multiplayer co-op missions released. Though pretty much every offical mission is a bit of a let down in the SP.

Damn, that looks fucking sexy. ArmA online is awesome, can't wait for this one.

    From the comments:
Looks awesome aside the gore being a bit shit and you’ll be forced to drive tanks and fly helicopters again. That spoiled Flashpoint and Arma for me, because all I want to do is be a spec ops dude in its world, rather than start as a grunt and end up having to command squads AS WELL as mastering two vehicle types.

Idiot who jumps in a helicopter on his own then abandons it in enemy territory: SPOTTED. It's because of people like him that Battlefield is now focused almost completely on infantry combat. Way to miss the point of the game, fuckwit.

Heh, thats why some people take up the role of taxi driver.

I love that team-playing attitude that you get in a (good) game of Arma online, people taxi, repair veichles, heal people and provide support when asked for. You don't get it very often in other games.

    Portable view - Never forget.

Joining something like International Conflict for these types of games is always worth a go. Just takes away the majority of the spoons who can ruin a game. Was in similar tournaments for BF1942, BF2 and Joint Ops and they really are great fun if you can ignore the yeehaw yanks spouting their crap non stop.

I quite fancy one of those but I find armchair infantry almost as irritating as the spoons. I got told off when playing ArmA the other day for not 'walking in formation'.

    *bump*

Interesting hands-on someone linked to in the preview thread. From a fan site, so make of it what you will, but it sure doesn't sound bad.

Only realised today that this is out here in Germany this week, but I haven't seen a review yet.

    Oh, this is getting interesting.

German print mag PC Games published a "first impressions" from the release version on their website, and titled it "A total bug disaster". The report then had to be pulled because the publisher demanded it, so they're not allowed to publish it again before tomorrow.

In the meantime, many people already have bought the game and seem quite impressed, saying it's not anywhere near as buggy as ArmA was, and are quite confused about the mag's article.

The publisher will issue a statement today regarding the whole thing.

Some nice chatter here at RPS.

Wait, is that a scope on that LMG? Don't make them accessible, those were my weapons of choice!

I used to use a scoped M249 all the time in OFP, it was lovely.

I specialised in mowing down pixels half a mile a way with a hail of machine gun fire whilst my team-mate's sniper rounds made little holes in the dirt at their feet. Gravity guys!

    Quite hyped for this game.

Yeah, the machine guns in ArmA are great.
Factoid: Carlos Hathcock, a US marine, used a modified .50 cal machine gun with a scope as a sniper rifle in Vietnam. He got a confirmed kill at a range of 1.4 miles.

    Same idiot then posted:

'I just hope it has the same *fucking incredible* mission editor as the other two, so I can carry on making concentration camps full of civillians and doing sweet warcrimes on them.'

    nice.

Even if it's buggy, it'll probably still be day one for me. I loved Flashpoint, one of the few games to really deliver the feeling of being fragile and vulnerable but still able to win the battle single-handedly if you're good / lucky enough. It didn't necessarily encourage you to be a hero, but the fact that you could added huge value to the game as a whole.

I think this is going to be an absolute joy to mess about with. The article that UncleLou posted was very encouraging.

looking at videos of operating flashpoint 2 and arma 2 i can safely say codemasters have made a dumbed down version of the (operation flashpoint 2) game to appeal to console gamers.

arma 2 however i reckon Bohemia might finally have gotten past their bug ridden gameplay and solidfied their game into the history books, it looks solid and realistic, and stunning above all.

in the words of pc zone...

"Codemasters may have the Operation Flashpoint name, but Bohemia Interactive have the soul."
