I've just been assaulted by what seems like an entire hive flying into my face. :(
It was only a five minute walk up the road to Sainbury's as well. :(

Saw 4 wasps in the beer garden last night :(

And there's plenty of bees in the lavender bush conveniently placed under the card access to my work car park :(

/has visions of a swarm of bees entering via car window

    not a force for good

I love lavender, you always get the bees going about their business. Shame it's so close to the ground though, I'm so nervous of treading on them, poor things.

We did have loads of clover in our garden but then I accidently knocked the mower setting down a notch too far and took all the clover flowers off :(

I was stung by a bee at Latitude on the weekend. First time since before I could drive...

LB, you really are a massive geek.

My housemate was stung by a wasp in his bedroom for the first time ever a month or so ago.

Happened at about 1am, he screamed and we all rushed out of room.

"I've been stung by a wasp!"

Me - "Bit late for that sort of thing isn't it?"

Everyone fell about laughing, I felt like a right tool...up until the point he asked where it had gone, I calmly stated it was on his back and he ran out of the front door wailing like a little kid...oh the hilarity :D

Flying ant day here in Surrey to.
Think a scarf around the chops on the cycle home might be a good idea.

Ms ED209 just sent me a text saying she's on her way home and there are flying ants everywhere and they bite! Am I some kind of weirdo in that I've never even heard of these things?

They don't bite. Well, they don't bite me.

Is your wife some sort of ant botherer?
  • Deleted user 22 July 2008 17:42:52
Ms, not Mrs - at least, not yet ;)

She's a botherer of a great many things. Well, she's American, what do you expect? ;)

Well what's she worried about little ant bites for then? Her old route home probably necessitated a flak jacket.

Little bastards were all over the place when I strimmed my lawn on the weekend. I'm sure that I don't actually have any soil, it's just a mass of ants.

I saw a load of them today in Northampton on the walk home.

    That is all.

Still stalking this place, old-school style (UID: 1053)

It's the wedding flight, when conditions are right, new queens take to the air to find a mate (slightly smaller flying ants), have their wicked way then land somewhere convenient burrow into the ground and build a new army of female workers to tend their underground sugar caves.

The males get a pretty raw deal as they drop dead as soon as they've shot their load into queenie...
