Wait a second. From the 1Up interview Feanor linked to:

A mere 10 minutes later, I was playing this classic PC RPG in full screen on my 23-inch widescreen monitor, with nary a problem or incompatibility in sight.

Is the guy suggesting he was playing Fallout in widescreen, without stretching the image? I mean, I can play Fallout in fullscreen mode on my widescreen monitor too, but it's 640*480 stretched (or with black borders, obviously, depending on the monitor settings).

Just got my e-mail too. Even though they're dirt cheap, it's a bit odd to charge for everything for a beta test, though I guess it's understandable given their "no DRM, infinite downloads and installs" thing.

They have a BOGOF going (you get an interplay game, so you could buy FO1 and get FO2 for free) for the beta. They were considering giving a free game but I think they were unable to due to the costs to them and the publishers.

Bought Shattered Steel, might get Lionheart as my freebie. Anyone recommend it?

I guess that means you get to keep this game then when beta ends.

Deus Ex is excellent. I've always thought Tropico was a classic. Those are the two old games that I play on a semi regular basis. I also second the vote for Op flash.

Downloaded Descent 1 and 2 last night, but yet to install them, will do so soon. So far everything looks pretty good. There are so many games I'd love to see on here, starting with the Wing Commander games, specifically WC4!

Well I have the Fallout Collection I just can't for the life of me get Fallout 2 to work in xp. :(

Install the killap 1.2.25.0 unofficial patch.

I had problems running FO2 in XP and installed that and it worked perfectly afterwards.

Problem with the service is, they only take Mastercard & Visa. No paypal and no Maestro.

Pretty pointless me getting in on the beta then wasn't it?

    :/

Done. I started forum thread over there about it, and wrote them an email as well, which got a quick reply, which was a nice touch.

    Hello,

We will be expanding our offer of payment options in the future. Currently our service is limited to credit cards and we are sorry if this proves to be an inconvenience to you.
We will put an appropriate notification in our News once we add more payment options.

    Regards,
    Peter

They accept paypal now if anyone is interested and in the beta. Picked up Freespace 2 for 3 quid and got Giants:CK as the free interplay game. I hope they manage to keep this going as it's a decent way to get some old games without yarring them.

In a fit of nostalgia, I bought 10 games off the site. Very smooth sailing, no annoying prompts, no nag screens, no delays. Click "purchase", click "download". That's it. Great stuff.

Now I'm just waiting for EWJ1+2 to be released.
  • Deleted user 30 September 2008 13:33:02
Ahaha. I also see they've put the stupidly obscure Kingdom The Far Reaches on there. I remember the demo of that, mostly the endlessly repeating "WHO ARE YOU?" "I AM NORMAN THE HUNTER, I KNOW MUCH OF THESE PARTS" at the beginning.

Might have to get that for reminiscing value alone.

Got a few off GOG. Cheap as chips. Perfect chance to pick up games I missed first time around.

Not visible without an account - what is it?

    Planescape Torment.

But System Shock 2 is nipping at its heels.
  • Deleted user 1 October 2008 15:29:44
I have an invite for a beta account if you want it, by the way, Lou.
