Americans turned it in to a joke by making it all sound the same.

Anyone recommend me some beginners dubstep? Not generally the sort of thing I listen to, mainly rock/metal/punk stuff usually, but lately been having a little listen to Flux Pavillion and enjoying it.

    Downes,

Check out Plastician, he's probably the best person in dubstep and one of the founders.

Yeah Plastician is a don, been in it from the start. He's got plenty of mixes floating around to download.

There's a lot of dross in dubstep these days, but Plastician still manages to keep a sound tune selection.

One of his best sets can be found here:

    http://www.ravelinks.com/forums/f96/plastician-bass-goes-boom-lava-chicago-12-7-07-a-59482/

This set is heavy (don't worry the shit MC gets thrown off after 20 mins ;) )

Can anyone recommend an artist doing stuff similar to Benga's 'Diary of an Afro Warrior' album? I love that it relies less on ridiculous bass drops and is a bit more subtle in general.

I'm not entirely sure what's dubstep about that?

Also reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQwMpHTGEg8 for some more cut-up, bass heavy, 70s classic action.

Can anyone recommend another band / artist like Nero? Their stuff is really working for me at the mo but there's not a lot of it yet.

Look in the charts? All Dubstep sounds like Nero now.

Really? I have no idea, I don't tend to follow these things (I haven't listened to the radio in about 5 years).

If you want an answer that isn't down it's nose try Magnetic Man. Maybe Skrillex.

    Brap, brap, old chap.

Ahh, I see. I assume Nero is bad music? :)

Thanks for the suggestions. Though I haven't really rated Skrillex outside of his Syndicate remix.

Sorry I was kind of looking down my nose. Try here if you've got a bit of time and you're free to have a listen.

There's also the Skream remix of La Roux 'Going in for the Kill' that started the whole singy thing going, you'll probably dig that. :)

Also if you search for Nero on that link and find the song you like there should be a little box that shows you the other things that people bought when they bought the Nero tune, you could have a look there.

I do like the singy thing, yes. Which probably explains why I have that particular remix already.

I'll have a look at that link, thanks.

When I was young my parents used to describe my taste in music as "terrible" and "just noise".

Well I'm getting old, that's my view of Dubstep. Perhaps it's because I've only ever heard the stuff that's out in the mainstream, but they all follow the same pattern with the same... noises. Wobble wobble wobble, screech, here comes the drop - more wobble wobble.

Holy shit, that is so good.

Don't think it's dubstep, though. Not that I'm complaining. Not really a fan of dubstep, I just came into this thread hoping to find something that would change my mind.

At least I got something good out of it :D ... I've been listening to that link all afternoon!

    Local plug (heh)

Brotherhood of Filth - Brum turnablist dubstep.

    Watch them in action.

I'm not a massive dubstep fan but I think it sounds great on K.

You really need to be there, battered, in front of the bassbin to get the full value IMO. Also, it helps if you find farting funny, IMO.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Seeing Skrillex at Brixton on Friday night...going to be weird going to a dubstep "gig" rather than a rave. Sign of the times I guess. Pity.

Sorry but bullshit. Nothing sounds particularly good on ketamine, if you can make it out as music at all. Sat in front of a substack even less so.

I was two busy trying to stop my head from turning inside out to be too bothered about music the few times I've took that shit. Spending what felt like 3 days being amazed at how big my pockets where.

    Hush you ponce

Bullshit? Nothing sounds good to you maybe, but I have a different experience. Imagine that?
To me, most music sounds brilliant on ketamine, especially stuff with bass in, the echoing distortion just adds to it. You may disagree, but you can't call my personal experience bullshit. You aren't me.
