Hopefully my search for larger and not completely shit burger buns is now over.

The ones they have in Sainsburys and Tesco's are awful. Cheap and completely unable to support anything other than the most basic burger.

Whipping in to the M&s tonight, combined with my new rolling pin on Burger technique I should be able to produce something halfay decent.

Five Guys has a couple things going for it, imo:

    1) The portion sizes for your money are more than adequate. My wife and I were more than full with 2 single-patty burgs and 1 order or regular fries - and I can normally eat that much by myself.

    2) As mentioned earlier, the soda machine! Although, I've seen those appearing at other restaurants recently.

    3) Free peanuts.

It's good, but not great. There's a mom-and-pop burger shop down the street that puts FG to shame, so I rarely go out of my way for it.
Which mom and pop burger place?
I am not stalking you, but if it's anywhere near Hammersmith and Fulham I'd be interested to know where it is so I can get burgers.

Not sure about the second, but you get points for sheer crazy :-D The second one is awesome looking! what does thatbad boy consist of?

For those wondering about buns, I often use Warburtons sliced white rolls. In and Out used them when they did a pop up here so that should be a pretty good endorsement. They hold up well and have great texture.

    Tonight's..

    Brioche bun top
    Ketchup
    Pickles
    Cheese
    Burger
    Tomato
    Red onion
    Garlic mayo
    Brioche bun bottom

.. ugggggh, simple and tasty! Let the onion, tomato and pickle warm up in the pan while the burgers were cooling. Really enjoyed the bun too, though it did give way pretty easily.

Edit - burger was an M+S Aberdeen Angus steak burger, I basically just pick whatever has the highest fat content without loads of added crap.

It's two brioche ham and cheap cheese slice sandwiches, very gently toasted in a frying pan, with english mustard and tons of gorgonzola on the burger. Brioche is a fucker to toast as the butter and sugar content makes it burn super quick. It was fabulous.

The other one is nachos and chipotle salsa with some soured cream and stuff

The mrs earmarked the mince for a chili, so I cooked this:

    http://groceries.asda.com/asda-webstore/landing/home.shtml#/product/910001024349

Shredded it and put it in the aforementioned brioche with a slice of gouda.

    It was mighty.

I'm certainly not as dedicated as folks here but I did make a toasted brioche sandwich containing a thick chorizo burger, cheese and chllii tomato relish at the weekend. Have to say brioche with burger goes surprisingly well! Might be a convert!

Yeah I'm with you on the brioche thing too. It's the sweetness vs saltiness thing I think

If nothing else, its the only bready thing powerful enough to contain the heft of a properly fixed burger.

A sesame seed bun just self destructs on the third bite and you dont want to eat it with a knife and fork like some sex offender.

    £210,000 Burger

"The burger is created from around 20,000 strips of muscle tissue which are grown in a jelly-like “growth medium” from beef stem cells."

    Mmmm stem cells....

It's so weird when you see people eating a burger with a knife and fork. It should be a crime punishable by horse whipping them through the streets while they have to eat a burger with their hands and feet of napkin. Maybe not the napkin part, bit harsh.

Seriously though, Come on its a sandwich. Would you eat a sandwich with cutlery? Toasted cheese sandwich with a knife and fork? It's ludicrous and looks silly. It's designed to be eaten with hands and what's more it's part of the experience.

Did a good one last night, 500g steak mince, 1 tbsp Worcester Sauce, 1 tbsp Soy Sauce, half a beaten egg (tho' not sure it needed it), 75 g crumbled feta, half a packet of chopped parsley, 1 chopped chilli. Had with lettuce and tomato in a fluffy roll (our Tesco is useless on the Brioche bun front, must try M+S). Not as classy as some of your offerings but pretty tasty.
