@Blakester - the I really disagreed with do much in that article. It's utter nonsense. Shake shake is all kinds of awesome. And why review Byron veg burger when it's clearly not what they are about? It contends making your own is difficult and the results are not great - thats nonsense. Also says people are all starry eyed coz shack and 5 guys are American, yet shake shack and 5 guys have mental queues and and crazy passionate fans there so it's a stupid argument.
Don't shoot the messenger Bob :)

I've yet to try Shake Shack or 5 Guys, so not really in the best position to comment. The description of P&B was spot-on though!
I'm not, I don't have any ammo, I spent it all on burgers! :D I do agree with them on 5 guys though I wouldn't say it's bad, just not that great.

The best you'll find won't come from a fast-food place.
Yeah, I really don't get the fuss. I was quite disappointed. They're nice but there is so much better out there. Maybe the fans of 5 guys just haven't tried anything better? It's a bit mystifying. The code machine is fantastic though!

I would definitely give them another chance. I recommend you try the winger wings! They launched the big popper ( a chilli burger) at feast London, and it was same good. Maybe they just aren't for you, different strokes and all :) but I would try them one more time.

I'm assuming you mean the coke machine.

It is awesome, innit?!? How the hell do they get so many sodas in there?

Their 'ultimate burger bun' is a brioche one. It's added a whole new dimension to my BBQ and hickory smoked burgers this summer. Tesco allegedly did something similar, but sadly our one doesn't.

@Razz Lovely. Rare burger with maple bacon and cheese on a brioche bun. The flavours complement eachother well and the burger wasn't too salty
Will try the reblochon next time as there will definitely be a next time!

It's delicious though! Well, I liked it. Anything that makes chips even more unhealthy is ok by me!

I never got the fuss about Five Guys. The burger was okay, but wasn't particularly unique or tasty. Does the UK one cook all the fries in peanut oil too? Would've thought no, given how tight they are on allergy stuff there.

@meme - Yeah it does. And I agree with you. I just don't get it at all. In fact the more time goes by and the more I reflect on it the less I am impressed. It's nice, I enjoyed it, but I am certainly in no rush to go back there because there are so many better options out there. The burger patties had no flavour, the buns where claggy and the fries simply ok.

Five Guys has a couple things going for it, imo:

    1) The portion sizes for your money are more than adequate. My wife and I were more than full with 2 single-patty burgs and 1 order or regular fries - and I can normally eat that much by myself.

    2) As mentioned earlier, the soda machine! Although, I've seen those appearing at other restaurants recently.

    3) Free peanuts.

It's good, but not great. There's a mom-and-pop burger shop down the street that puts FG to shame, so I rarely go out of my way for it.

Went to a new place in Glasgow today called Burger Meats Bun. Was a very decent burger, loaded with smoked bacon, spiced ketchup, their own burger sauce, lettuce, tomato and I had them throw on some jalapeños as well, all on a lovely broiche bun. All with a helping of Thai Chili Cheese fries.

Would recommend it to any Glaswegians or anyone visiting.

It's cheap and tastes good and when you want a mountain of bacon on your burger you get a mountain of bacon.

True enough, but like ronuds I've got a mom and pop burger place that's closer, cheaper and better. They do a Western Burger (quarter pounder, onion rings, bacon, bbq sauce) that I swear is the best burger I've ever had in my life.

@elstoof Grubbs still lives mate, the Maylasian is still good but they are not a patch on these London restaurants. However there is an awesome burger guy in Brighton who can give anyone a run for their money. If you are in town find The Troll's Pantry.

I went to five guys last week. It was ok.. Burger was good, the fries although generous(I couldn't finish a regular) were soggy. The skin-on didn't make them any nicer. It is not cheap at £8 for Cheeseburger and £4 for a regular (actually XL) fries. I am dying to check out Shake Shack but the queue has been humungous every day. Wobbly_Bobs photos make it look worth the wait though! The milkshakes (concretes) look very interesting!

I've been to a few Shake Shacks over in the US, they're good. I like the hot dogs. Stings a bit when a $4 dish costs £5 over here though.

A Grubbs triple with peanut butter on it is always going to be special to me, I'll check that one out next time I'm down though riz, cheers
