If there's a better burger joint than P&B in London, I'd love to hear it.

I was in Hawskmoor yesterday and severely tempted to try theirs, but when the company is paying for your lunch, you might as well order a steak that's bigger than your own head. :-)
Their burger is superb! However I have been in the same position, got to go with the steak if someone else is picking up the tab!

Agreed but don't get the optional chorizo sausage topping, it makes the burger really really salty.

Bloody hell! Shake Shack is opening on the 5th of July! I'm planning to go on opening day. Now maybe I will have to do both. I will probably do both. I didn't know that one was opening on the 4th. Good call, cheers.

    BURGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I do them both then I will post up a comparison report here. I'm liking the look of the hot dogs and frozen custard at shake shake.

Five Guys isnt that great. I think the best thing about it for me is the portion sizes. The burgers are good but not amazing.

@wobbly_Bob I know two new burgers to try two days apart. It's a wonderful start to July! I've also found out MEATwagon is at Glastonbury so I'm going to have one of the classic cheeseburgers there instead of the usual crap...

I will be at Five Guys on the 4th and will have to do Shake Shack on the 5th (£4.50 for a root beer? Daaaaamn). I will wear my Legend of Zelda tracksuit top for EG spotting at lunchtime. Stop me and say hi but don't get in the way of me and my burger!

With MEAT Market there too, Covent Garden has become a burger hub!

@slurmish - I'm hoping I disagree with you :-) I'll find out Saturday! Bring it on!

@Petulant_radish - cool nick, btw. And don't forget Byron! Good times!

    @riz23 - I'll look out for you! :-D

Small burger related rant: Because of the whole Shamburger thing is seems that the mainstream media has noticed the burger revolution going on. It annoyed me no fucking end to read it reported as "posh burgers." It's typical classist Britain. They are not posh they are just done right with quality ingredients and that costs money. I really don't feel that under £15 quid for burger and fries is in any way posh. So the working class don't deserve to eat at places that charge 7 - 9 pound for a burger and should stick to mcdonalds and burger king. The reason we are in the whole horse meat mess is shitty cheaply produced food. Changing peoples perceptions of how much stuff should cost is half the battle to getting a proper food culture in this country.

    I feel better now.

    /rant off.

Five Guys second shop is going to be in Reading. Sure there once at Washington airport, but mucked up the order because I didn't realise that you basically specify EVERYTHING you want in the bun apart from the burger.

Reading? Interesting they are already planning another outpost. That's one thing I noticed right away on their site is that they have a store locator link very predominantly placed. I'm sure they are planning a massive push.

I broke my jaw and I'm feeding through a straw at the moment, which frankly sucks especially with these two opening next week.

I know where I'm dining when I get my gob back though.

Have we got any views of burger joints in the north? I hope the south isn't hogging all the good burger places :).

Probably, tho you have all the best chippies so it evens out a bit! I know Byron has opened in Manchester and Liverpool, if that's any help :-) Other than that I don't know.

Compared to most fast food places, it's a lot better. It is a chain, though, so obviously subject to the downfalls that typically brings.

The best burger joints are the mom and pops, imo. That's not Five Guys.

Aye I'd probably agree with you there. I was excited when they announced they were opening in Vancouver. Queued outside for near an hour to try them out on the first they and found out they were nowhere near as good as a place called Vera's. Live and learn!

Guess you're there now? Queue is mental!

I was there there this morning at 11am when they opened! Massive queue, there where quite a dew photographers there. Loved the atmosphere in there and they had the free peanuts! Free drink refills with lots of options.

The burgers: I had the bacon cheese burger all the way which is mustard, pickles, cheese, ketchup, mushrooms, and onions. All the toppings are free choices.

The burger was really good and a big step up from Mcdonald or burger king, however it's nowhere near as good as Byton, patty & the bun, meat liquor and so on. I thought the bun was a bit of a let down. It tasted a bit craggy and wasn't up to the task of holding up under the toppings. The quality of the meat patty was very good and the bacon was lovely and crispy.

The fries were awesome but a bit over salted but I put that down to first day jitters.

Overall I really enjoyed it. Shake shack, tomorrow! :D

My God Bob, how are you still alive?

I don't think I've had a burger in about 3 months but I think you've eaten enough to satisfy ten men!

I've been making my own 50g burger patties for the last while in an effort to emulate the double double, got a handy little burger press that's dishwasher friendly.

Theres a new burger joint near me called "Bloomburger" and fuck me, they are easily the best i've had. This coming from a guy whose been to America a few times and tried their burgers.

Very slightly pink in the middle, flame-grilled, hand-made and just perfect. They have one which comes with sauté onions and cambozola cheese, which i have the below relationship with :

"The worst part is, I'll have to have the break-up sex with myself!"
