Registered 11 years agoSorry been busy so not been on the Xbox for a while. Should be around this weekend as I've got work to do and am broke.
Anyway, they've announced some DLC. Two fucking maps for 560 points, neither which is playable in Capture. Eidos are taking the piss. No new units or game options. -

Registered 11 years agoI think we can safely ignore that DLC then, I'd certainly be up for some more Pacific this weekend, if I can drag myself away from RFG!This space left intentionally blank.

Registered 6 years agoUber bump.
Rebought this cheap liiike on the net.
I remember the MP being awesome but hamstrung by absurd insta-recoupment of command points, meaning there was no real penalty in losing a ship etc.
Other than that, however, I'm eager to get back in to the swing of things - largely for SP, if I'm honest. However, if anyone wants a game, yell.

Registered 11 years agoHaven't played this in ages, but did enjoy the multiplayer. Would be up for a game. Have they delayed the resources refunding in a patch? Such a simply game mechanic that put a real dent in the game. -

Registered 6 years agoI doubt it.
I had a brief browse of the official forums, but kept it brief as the first post I saw was a self-important fan-rant about how Eidos sucked and the 'fans' were never going to support them ever again.
So yeah, probably not.
Even so, didn't it only affect Island Capture? There were some maps which had limited resources etc, IIRC. Siege was awesome, I think... -

Registered 6 years agoI just remember there being a map with 4 BBs on each side, in a storm. No respawns, just pure awesome.
And a siege map where you had to invade an island and I'm fairly sure there weren't respawns there. I do remember also winning games by HQ destruction - so respawns didn't help there.
However, I also remember a three-island map. One each, and a neutral base. It was so small that there were just endless destroyers respawning...over and over and over again. Rubbish.
But fun to see how many torpedoes you could fire at once. -

Registered 6 years agoAm enjoying this again. Been playing a few Island Capture games, won 3, lost 1.
The old annoyances are there (i.e your points are reimbursed automatically), but the games I've played have been won more by tactics, use of naval supplies (I had one CA vs 3 others. It won with Auto Reload. It's like a gatling gun that fires 15in shells instead of 0.5 bullets...awesome) and choice of unit. The difference between an AI ally and one you control is VAST.
So, yeah, it's actually more fun than I remember, and not totally broken like I feared. -
Really want to get this again it was a brilliant game, thought about it the other day and instantly needed to play it again.
Not much luck finding copies online so may have to find some time to get into town and see if Gamestation have any cheap copies.

There was certainly something that they buggered up in this that made its life a lot shorter than it should have been, I think it could be time for another visit. This space left intentionally blank.

Never did have much interest in playing this online if I'm honest and I doubt I will when I get it again, I just loved the SP.
Man, I really need to play this again! -

Registered 10 years agoNot the cheapest way to buy it of course, but it is £19.99 on GOD 4.91Gb download. -
Still after this game! I thought I would wait until it is in one of the games shops around my area but I've had no joy in all this time.
This game is like gold dust now which is why, I guess, the price is still £20+.
I'm thinking I may have to just go for the on demand purchase and find a free evening to allow it to download.
4.9Gb is going to take ages!

Might shoot off early today and begin the download. Should be ready buy the time I get home tomorrow

I remember playing the demo of this thinking it was really good. In many ways like Battlefield 1942, but with much better depth to the naval combat of course. Wonder what the price is now? I've never seen it cheap anywhere in any sales, in all these years. Makes you wonder how many they published.
£19 amazon, £20 play. Shame, would've picked it up for less than £10.

It really is a hard one to find. I've now given up on looking so will download the £19.99 copy from live. I've waited enough.
I'm already prepared to see a cheap copy in my local game shop next time I walk in. -
Ha, yeah that always happens.
Is there many people still playing this online Mr Sparrow? -
Some. Not many.
It works best when people have limited resources: I.e any game mode that isn't Island Capture. That can be fun, despite the silly resource problems.
It's quite fun online, and worth a go. It's great in Siege or a small Island Capture, where you may only have one ship or squadron each, and teamwork wins out. -
