Fucking brutal gig last night. I think they really went to town on the noise levels because it was their last London show.

On of the roadies ran on stage during the 20 minute 'wall of noise' and gave Shields a piece of paper which he casually toassed to one side...

But it was a brilliant show. I just hope this is the start of MBV's return with a new album not so far off...

Heading to the Manchester gig this Sunday at the Apollo Theatre. Flying in from Dublin on the Saturday. Really looking forward to it.

Saw the Manchester gig last night. They were awesome! The guy on the door advised we take the ear plugs as he reckoned it was 140db, which I can quite believe, it was loud as fuck and they cranked it up a bit every couple of tracks. The last song - Feed Me With Your Kiss - was a bit too much. They might as well have just set off a jet engine on stage for the last 25 minutes. It didn't even go back into the song, literally 25 minutes of insane volume throbbing feedback and then they went off. I was holding my hands up in surrender long before it finished.

I remember back in the early 90s they were talking about volume levels and frequencies that would cause palpitations and stuff - everyone I was with felt a bit weird after the gig. I imagine they play that on a loop in Guantanamo Bay.

If you think that's bad you should try going to a Sunn O))) gig.

Haha they didn't finish the song?

They stopped for a second at the London show after the noise and then immediately went back into it.

They did finish the song, i just reckon everyone was so shellshocked they couldn't hear it!

Has anyone else heard much by Rollerskate Skinny? They're famous for one member being Kevin Shields brother but they are very good. Only released two albums (Shoulder Voices 1994 and Horsedrawn Wishes 1996) but they are exactly how you'd imagine MBV to be if they...y'know...made actual songs.(Note: that's not a criticism, I love MBV)

How rare are vinyls of Loveless?

Very. 'Isn't Anything' even more so.

Even if it's a reissue? And by that, I mean a 2003 American reissue.

What year reissue? The original, original vinyl for Loveless is worth quite a bit because the mastering wasn't very good so it's a lot more noisy and staticy than intended.

I believe the reissue vinyls from around 1993/4 cleaned that up and while still being quite rare aren't worth as much.

Posted before your edit: the 2003 are not worth much yet, but hang onto it for a few years.

    2003. :)

I've found one on eBay for 20 Buy It Now, would you say that's a decent price?

Yeah that's not bad. The sound quality (on some good decks) is meant to be stunning for the 2003 reissues.

Just be sure to keep it in good shape, dust jacket etc.

I'll have a think about it for a bit. Thanks for the help. :)

Bit the bullet and ordered it. Still, I've got a day or so to cancel it (didn't go with the eBay one) before dispatch, and since it was the only one in stock, it's given me some security at least.

How much did you pay in the end?
  • Deleted user 1 August 2008 21:53:53
Had to cancel. Just did it there. It was 23.50, but I everytime I look at it I'd just remember how much it was.
  • Deleted user 1 August 2008 21:55:52
I might get the remastered version on vinyl or something. That was just too much to pay, even though I love the album.

It's one of those albums worth owning on vinyl if your a vinyl aficionado seeing as it sounds sooooo good on it.

But money is a bitch we all have to obey :(
  • Deleted user 1 August 2008 21:59:37
I could afford it, but I'd feel pangs of guilt whenever I listened to it. It's just a bit of a silly amount to spend on one vinyl.

Does it sound THAT good? 23.50 good? :p

If you love the album as much as I do, then hearing on vinyl on some good decks is heaven. The noise just washes over you and you can hear all it's genius layers.

Oh... I don't knoooooooow. I really love the album, it's one of my favourites ever. I'm trying to justify it to myself now.

Would I feel worse for not buying and it selling out, or worse for spending almost 25 on one vinyl? Hmm
  • Deleted user 1 August 2008 22:07:17
Just went back, and... well, either the page hasn't updated to reflect me cancelling it, or someone's bought it! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I've ended up buying a 'Like New' one for a couple of pounds less.

I've spent 50 on vinyl and don't even have a good player at the moment... I kind of ignore financial logic when it comes to good music.
  • Deleted user 1 August 2008 22:16:38
What was the vinyl, if you don't mind me asking?

The one I've ordered is just a smidge over 20. I don't feel so bad about that for some reason. :D

An original pressing of Godspeed You Black Emperor's - F# A# Infinity

Which came with hand written sleeve notes and Canadian penny crushed on the trains tracks on the bands studio.

    I love it to bits.
  • Deleted user 1 August 2008 22:24:42
I came shockingly close to a last-minute bid for an Animal Collective vinyl for around... 70, I think it was? Or maybe it was $70, I can't remember.

Only 100 of them exist, each with a different cover handmade by the band.

I don't think I'd ever have been able to live with myself if I'd placed a bid.
  • Deleted user 8 August 2008 15:12:15
    Yay, it arrived!
  • Deleted user 28 August 2008 23:58:20
    New tracks!!!!!!

Listening to the first one at the mo. I'm hoping it's a joke.
