Anyone doing any particularly good deals on Studio Ghibli dvds at the moment? I'm missing a few of the Takahata films and fancy stocking up :o)

Sendit seem to be cheapest at present.

Whisper of the Heart has recently dethroned Kiki's Delivery Service as my favourite Ghibli film. Miyazaki didn't direct it but did handle the screenplay and storyboards.

Howl's Moving Castle closely followed by Spirited Away.

Screenings of 2 Studio Ghibli films in August on Film4.

    The Cat Returns - 9/8/08, 15:20 and 12/8/08, 15:05
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - 13/8/08, 14:50

Radio Times online confirms the first showing of The Cat Returns so it should be all correct.

Nausicaa is my personal favorite so I can recommend catching that. I'll have to check out The Cat Returns today though; can't ever recall watching it.

When I have kids, the first movie I'll show them will be My Neighbor Totoro.

Showed that one to my niece and nephew recently, die hard Pixar fans. Now they're steadfastly collecting all the Ghibli films instead.

    My job here is done

I saw it recently, at a bar. I broke out into a grin at several points in the movie - it's just so happy and wonderful. No evil witches or bad meateating animals - just pure joy.

The part in Spirited Away where they're splashing along the tracks and then the train journey afterwards was one of the those moments where I'm sat with my mouth open trying to figure out how they knew about the things in my head (I was a seaside kid, loved trains, tendencies towards being a bit wistful).

    Love it.

    Aw fuck man, now you've made me cry. ;_;

Fuck, I've forgotten how beautiful that movie was.

They are all fantastic. I pretty much finished off my collection the other day when some fool was getting rid of a bunch of US releases at 3 quid a pop.

I've been to the Ghibli museum in Mitaka and it is fucking top. If you are ever in Japan it is well worth a visit. Just make sure you book in advance (you can get tickets from Lawson's convenience stores).

No idea :) Haven't seen it myself, and only realised it was on half-hour ago. Just thought I'd pass the word.

Edit: Damn new page. To reiterate : Tales from Earthsea, 14:25, Film 4 tomorrow (Sun).
