Registered 11 years agoI saw Princess Mononoke first of all. Which I reckon has kind of spoiled it a bit, since I've not found another one that's as good.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Registered 8 years agoMe and Mrs Murbal watched Totoro last night. Wonderful. Really want my girls to see it, but they'll get nothing from a subtitled version (especially my 3 year old!)...
If I buy the DVD, does it have both subbed and dubbed versions?

Registered 3 years agoJust watched Ponyo with my lad and we both loved it. We watched Spirited Away in April that we both loved as well - are there any other really exceptional ones that anyone can recommend (bearing in mind he's 8 so nothing too weird or scary) as they could make an excellent supplement to the Xmas present pile.gif)

Registered 7 years agoThey're all good so you can't really go wrong but Princess Mononoke is excellent and easily my favourite. It's bit more serious than those two but I think it'd be ok for an 8 year old. Porco Russo is great too, flying pig! Please don't use the delete button, think of the children.

Registered 3 years agoCheers guys, reading back through this thread and the few others that are on here (being pretty much unaware of any of these films up until this year) I wanted to make sure I didn't order any old crap off Amazon.gif)
Porco Russo and Princess Mononoke both got good write ups on IMDB (for whatever that's worth) and I'll go have a read about The Cat Returns now too.
Cheers again both

Registered 4 years agoIron,
The two best, non weird or scary Studio Ghibli stories have to be The Cat Returns, and Kiki's Delivery Service, both have simple stories, with likable characters, and two of my favourite Ghibli flicks as they're really easy to watch for both you and your kid. My neighbor Totoro is brilliant too, however in terms of story not a great deal happens and there's a few strange characters so he may not enjoy it as much compared to other films from the studio.
As he gets older ones to definitely watch would be, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa: Valley of the wind, and Castle in the sky, these stories follow a more mature path. I say that, they're still essentially a kids film, but they're a bit longer in running time, and have a more serious tone to them, especially compared to a story about a cat kingdom!!
Hope this helps fella, enjoy watching more as there's some wicked films from Ghibli. -

Registered 3 years agoThanks again Nath, I'll do a bit more reading up on all of those you mention.gif)
I was surprised to see that the credits noted Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Liam Neeson etc as the voice cast but it was all in Japanese with English subtitles which made it even better (for me at least!)
I wonder if my lad will dream of marrying a fish tonight?! -

Registered 9 years agoI ordered myself one of these a week or so ago: Studio Ghibli 18 movie collection
I've not seen a lot of the films myself but I've always meant to, and I wanted a cheap way to do it, so this killed two birds. Not expecting it to arrive until after xmas but looking forward to that week

Registered 9 years agoI wish it had The Girl Who Leapt Through Time as I want to see that too but I'll get it separately. It's one of the few out on Bluray so I'll just make that purchase at some point. -

Registered 6 years agoI think Film 4 or channel 4 are doing a season of Studio Ghibi films, including Ponyo. Dunno when it starts though. It was probably two months ago and already finished, or something :/This post is unsuitable for those with a high rumour-sensitivity.

I hate to be 'that guy' but I'm pretty sure that's a very good knock-off

I bought a few like it a couple years back on ebay, some are near impossible to tell but others are clearly fan-subs.Please don't use the delete button, think of the children.
