Also be sure to check out the Tilted Kilt and the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio and see if there are any decent gigs at the House of Blues at Mandaly Bay. -

Registered 8 years agodefinitely a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon - was pretty damn good when I went. Never been in a heli before and it all felt very very fragile. We (Pink) Jeep'ed it through the roads and off road to one of the numerous touristy spots where they set off for the heli ride.
Went to a magic show too.
Ignored Celine Dion.

Registered 7 years agoThere is nothing to do in Vegas apart from drink and gamble. It's pretty depressing actually, but after a couple of days it broke me and I started enjoying myself a bit more. Drinking. And gambling. -

The Rio is a a-typically bonkers casino with a carvival every x minutes with Gondolas moving over the casino floor filled with dancing ladies, etc. Very silly and fun (and you can ride in the Gondolas during the act for the payment of a fee). And the Voodoo has a great extended balcony with the best nighttime view across Vegas.
+1 to the rides at the top of the Strat. But not on a hangover.
Also - get Cirque de Sol tickets; they are all amazing shows.
Relive bits of 'Fear and Loathing' by drinking in the rotating bar in Circus Circus - although the phrase 'somewhat faded' might have been invented for the place.
In fact - go the whole hog and drive to Vegas from LA in a red mustang with the top down. -

Agree with the Gun Store - it's bonkers to us brits to be able to stroll in and fire guns...

Also worth taking a hot air balloon ride over the desert - it means a bloody early start (5.30!) but if you have never done it before it's brill. There are ads in the free magazines and papers that you can pick iup all over town.
Also, Red Rock national park is nice for a bit of nature.
A serious tip - you MUST hire a car, otherwise the only thing in Vegas you'll see are the casinos. -

Registered 7 years agoWe made a trip to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas during a stay there last year and it was amazing. One thing to consider though is if the trip is by helicopter especially if it lets you land in the canyon then you are going to west rim not the national park (the west rim is also where the sky walk is).
In my opinion to truly experience the canyon you need to fly out to the national park and do the tours around there. Our day was around £150 each I think and included flight to Arizona and coach trip to a few viewing spots around the park. The national park is the canyon you will normally see in photos where it is 17miles across and breathtaking. You also get some great views of the dam and canyon on your flight out. -

Registered 8 years agoGo and see Freemont Street at night, and wander around the old town for a bit. Some of the older Casinos just ooze atmosphere, with the same patronage that must have been there since the 50's.
I'll second the Stratosphere suggestions also, again at night if you can, the views are stunning. And yeah, firing a gun is something you'll never forget; no matter how perverse it seems to be doing it.
How long are you there for? If it's a while, make sure you hit up a different Casino buffet every day as well, sample them all! My own favourite was the Luxor in that respect, some awesome food for a pretty decent price (about $20 if I remember correctly).
And as Deem says, you should really get to both the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Both of which are stunning in their own right, not to be missed. -

Registered 8 years agoWe were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?" -

Registered 7 years agoStayed in both Caesars and the Bellagio and both were amazing.
Caesars had a topless pool (or European style as they called it) but they had bouncers on it who were quite choosy about who they let in. -

Registered 8 years agotbh, I don't there much to set them apart. Nothing apart from the room is included in the price, and you can go to any food place/casino/show/bar in any of the hotels regardless of where you actually stay. You just can't charge it to your room if it's not your hotel. Thanks for expressing interest in my signature!

Registered 10 years agoI'm going THIS FRIDAY!! \o/ \o/ \o/
We're doing a flydrive around the Grand Canyon region for a couple of weeks, so staying one night in Excalibur at the start (cheap and cheerful, plus my missus has a castle obsession...), then staying at MGM Signature for three nights at the end of the holiday - expensive, but among the best.
Sites I've used religiously for the last 6 months:
