And if you did, did you notice anything fishy?

It was "The Two Mrs. Nahasapeemapetilons" episode, which I must've seen about 10 times before now. I noticed a couple of bits had been cut out though, rather badly, I thought. I've found a script to show you.

Lisa: Can I ask you about that dot? [referring to the gopi dot on Apu's mother's forehead.]
Apu's mother: What would you like to know?
Lisa: What's the deal with that dot?
    Following is Cut ->
Bart: Can you see out of it? Does it change colour when your'e ticked off?
    Apu's mother: You tell me.
    Bart: Nothing yet...

    and Homer dressed as Ganesh...
Homer: I am the God, Genesh! This wedding angers me. It will break up or all will die.
    Apu: Oh God!
    Homer: Please Listen to me!
Indian: Tu begin Ganesh. Ganesh by undercan deay ne!
["You are not Ganesh. Ganesh is graceful"] [chases after Homer]
Homer: [runs off and loses an arm] Stop chasing Ganesh, you're just going to get more Wrath!

I thought that idea about banning poking fun at religion was written off ages ago? This is poor C4, just poor. Any Hindu's reading find this offensive in the slightest? I'd email C4 if I wasn't so lazy.

Hehe. Good old Simpsons. They change on thing and *everyones* already seen it twenty times.

They did something similar for the St. Patricks day one too iirc.

Yeah I noticed that too. Don't really understand why they've done it.

They cut the end of Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls on BBC before.

The crazy guy and the bird from both tribes get married and go into the tent. The crazy guy comes out and starts yelling. Ace asks what he said... then it cuts to him running away, skipping the fat guy telling him that he's saying she's not a virgin.

They always cut out the bit with the two guys in the WTC towers arguing as well in the episode where Homer's car is clamped outside them.

I too noticed the glaring cuts in tonight's episode though. The bit with Homer in the costume made absoloutely no sense as a result.

Because they're Channel 4, who really went to shit after Grade left them.

They seem to like deciding that Series X is suitable for Timeslot Y regardless of actual content, then butcher it to fit. Then act very confused when people complain.

Remember when they tried showing Angel ~5pm a few years back? 42 minute episodes often ended up being under 38 or so minutes.

BBC 2 used to do that with Buffy.

I always find it odd C4 still show Friends at all times of day despite the numerous mentions of vaginas and penises (with hilarious consequences needless to say).

The U2 Simpsons as well. Mr Burns would always stand up and sit down silently at the end. It wan't till I saw it on the Irish channel RTE that I heard him call U2 "wankers".

I'd love to see what they could do about the Bart in Oh Brother Where Art Thou: "So, any idea where this bastard lives?" etc

    Not quite as badly.

An excellent example is on half terms when they show Futurama on mornings as part of a 'kids' section; absolutely butchered.

Friends is cut horribly. "Bitch" is allowed, but any mention of the word "porn" is immediately and crudely cut. Also in one episode where Joey gets locked in a cupboard by putting a hockey stick through the handles, that bit is cut entirely, same as when Chandler gets handcuffed to a chair/filing cabinet. Really odd cuts.

However! The one that really takes the piss, is the cut of an episode of Scrubs on E4, where a patient gets a light bulb stuck in their arse. (My Office) The ENTIRE story about that happening about that is cut, it's about 5 minutes worth of material, and at the end, they have a scene with Kelso, when he turns on his desk lamp (which the other guys put the offending light bulb in), and that scene is kept it. If you hadn't seen the episode before, that scene would make absolutely no sense.

    Really? Wow.

Not that it's particularly shocking or anything but I just can't imagine it coming out of Mr Burns' mouth at all.

And I've seen that episode lots.

What's up with the censorship of the word porn, I was watching scrubs on E4 and the bit where JD is seeing his future self as a coffee addict and he has a dodgy moustace, where he should say "i guess i'll look like a porn star when i'm older" was cut, it was bizarre because... well, when did the word porn become offensive?

They're aware of it beinga British insult-y type thing but obviously it doesn't mean that much to them - which means that they can get away with using it as a swear word on tv.

good point. the series of episodes of arrested development with charlize theron playing a british simpleton was embarrasing cos they just played on a yank idea of what britishness was. no research whatsoever. and yanks playing brits? whatever next...

Americans use the word "wank" as an insult. ie. "you're a wank"

It's very odd, cause they basically took it from us and didn't know how to use it.

Not about censorship, but it really really pisses me off that Americans don't pronounce the name "Graham" properly. For ages I thought there was a product in the US called "Gram Crackers".

And then there's caramel, which is pronounced "carmel" over there.
  • Deleted user 9 April 2008 23:41:32
    Aluminum.
  • Deleted user 9 April 2008 23:42:48
    And "food" being pronounced "PIESPIESPIESPIES"
