Doves were an electronic band. Then one day the studio they used burnt down destroying all their equipment. So they decided to pick up guitars as it was cheaper.

Jetstream by Doves is a great track and not what you'd expect from them.

I know what you mean, but Doves were sub sub before they made a dramatic u-turn into more rock territory. It's nice to see them incorporating a bit of their dance history and works bloody well.

There's a big New Order influence on that track too.

    End of page blues.

    Listen to these:

Matmos, Holy Fuck, Mouse On Mars, Cex and Autechre - they all kick some serious ass :)

Oh yeah and Bjork, she's fucking incredible. Homogenic is without a doubt one of the greatest albums, a seminal piece of work.

As 2 others have mentioned, Innerpartysystem.

They mix electronic with a bit of rock. I have seen them live twice haven't failed to impress both times.

Only thing is, they are relativity unknown but are making their way...

Songs off their debut album to listen to: Die Tonight Live Forever, Last Night in Brooklyn, Don't Stop and Obsession.

I wouldn't say they're that unknown, they were all over MTV2/Scuzz/Kerrang at one point.

    Get bent.

Thoughts Become Things by Dakota is my favourite EDM album so far this year.

Mix-cd wise, Toronto 09 gets my vote.

My favourite song off the album - Coconut.

Very dark, moody. The rest of the album is a tad more upbeat if you're not much for that song.

Autechre fans might want to check their remix on the new Black Dog single, should be up on itunes and most mp3 stores now.

DMX Krew - Wave Funk volume 1 on Rephlex (home to Aphex Twin's AFX material) is an electronic record I'm really liking right now.

    Psytrance Euphoria 1 or 2?

TribeofFrog website also has loads of free psytrance downloads.

Add me on Nintendo network! I'm 'Sy' or 'Sy_the_Brit_1982' (I've got US systems, hence 'the_Brit').

I've started getting into this quite a lot recently. Stuff like Air and Zero 7 have really been tickling my fancy. Any recommendations to similar stuff? Last.fm threw up a Fever Ray track that I quite liked.

We're back! Our gaming podcast Open Source returns after a break with a look at Destiny, Minecraft and more. Check us out! (And give us a rating on iTunes please!) :)

I think most of the stuff mentioned in here is mostly proper dance/electronic, rather than lo-fi type electronica like Air and Zero 7. I'm more into the latter though.

Try: Sia, Jose Gonzalez, DJ Shadow, Moloko (maybe), Nouvelle Vague, The Chemical Brothers, Nitin Sawhney... If you want darker electronica/trip-hop... head to Massive Attack, Tricky, Portishead. Morcheeba are also very good, but lighter than trip-hop, but not really Zero 7 style.

    So yeah.

For stuff a bit like Air then I would suggest Lindstrom or Glenn Kotche/On Filmore. His stuff isn't electronic but it's similar in style.
