Skulls of the Shogun is turn-based strategy and appears to have local multiplayer (if that's what offline multiplayer is).

Also Geo Wars 2 can be played in local multiplayer and it's awesome.

If you like Advance Wars then you'll like Skulls of the Shogun.

Cheers all. Will check out Monaco and Renegade Ops. Have Trials already (natch) and it is fun, but we've pretty much exhausted all the bundled and player made motorcross tracks.

Can't do sports games, hate the spazzy controls. Didn't realise XBLA had Catan and Carcassone, but it looks like they're online multi only?

    What's D&D Daggerfall like, worth a punt?

Any turn based strategy on there? Would really like something like Advance Wars.
Greed Corp is a decent turn based strategy with local multiplayer game

I've played local multiplayer Carcassonne, not sure about Catan but I think that is local multiplayer too.

this week's DotW now on. Not a good week.

Guardians of Middle Earth @ 4.99 is the only half decent game.

Beyond that, it's just a load of movie tie-in crap, such as X-Men Arcade

Thanks for this. Looks like I'll be saving my money this week. I'm slightly addicted to terraria anyway, it's a bit of a time sink.

What's the deal with Halo 3 digital version - Iirc the retail version couldn't be installed to HDD due to the way bungie handled streaming?

The download version should be the same as the disc version in that regard. The disc version can be installed, but it increases load times between levels quite significantly. Interviews with Bungie were along the lines of "fixing it would take time, so, no".

Fortunately, one of EG's absolutely great members discovered that if you have the 4GB console and keep your save on there, it improves the loading times considerably. I imagine you could keep your save on the USB for the same effect.

Initial level loads for Halo 3, disk versus hard drive, spoiler if you somehow haven't played it yet.

    Sierra 117 46 seconds 53 seconds
    Crow's Nest 59 seconds 70 seconds
Tsavo Highway 46.5 seconds 57 seconds
The Storm 52 seconds 64 seconds
    Floodgate 54 seconds 64.5 seconds
The Ark 61 seconds 69 seconds
The Covenant 66.5 seconds 78 seconds
    Cortana 40.5 seconds 48.5 seconds

Doesn't effect instant reloads from what I remember so just as quick. Installing is the way to go.

So if I want to buy something more expensive than the amount in my account after points got converted, I can't use that value first, so annoying Microsoft. I would actually buy something if I could!

think you've got that the wrong way round.

When you buy something the 'expiring' credit is used up first, with the balance being taken elsewhere.

    @dancingrob

    Hmm.

My current credit is greyed out if I try to buy something of greater value and my only option is my PayPal account. Nothing I'm seeing alludes to them using my current credit first. It basically says for example 9.99 Paypal payment not 4.21 Paypal with my credit taken off first..

    @oceanmotion

not quite the exact same situation, but before the first purchase I made, my account balance looked something like this (all exact numbers are examples)...

    2 expiring 1 July 2014
    20 expiring 20 Aug 2014
    30 expiring 15 Aug 2015
    credit card number

I then purchased something for 6, and it used the 2 first, followed by the rest coming from the 20.

I'd be surprised if this would be any different for paypal, but obviously couldn't be certain...

I don't see anything like that. Think I'll just have to suck it up and buy some cheapish content that comes along than let it go to waste.

sale up. possible contender for worst week ever, although at least it's new stuff.

    Storm - 3.37
    Capsized - 3.37

Neither of these had even faintly registered with me, and have mediocre reviews, with most of the half decent publications not even bothering to review them at all.

Beyond that, lots of unappealing Games on Demand, generally with Ben10 or Battlestations in the title

Battlestations: Pacific is a good game. Is fun in SP, and MP is too if you tweak some settings.

    BS: Pacific is 3.99?

You'd be an idiot not to get it at that. It's very different (on console, anyway), and is genuinely good.

This week's deals appear to be all Need For Speed stuff (On Demand versions of the games and their DLCs), but there's a bunch of horror-related price-drops as well, most likely for that there Halloween thing.

    Limbo - 4.99
    The Walking Dead: 400 Days - 1.69
    Bloodforge - 4.99
Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime - 1.69
    Ghostbusters (On Demand) - 5.99
Skulls of the Shogun - 3.37

Will probably pick up Skulls at that price, and if you haven't played that final Walking Dead episode yet then it's absolutely worth 1.69 of anyone's money.
