Brothers shall be my first XBLA game since the AWESOME FEZ last year!

... must get through The Walking Dead: 400 Days first before I start another game though.

Still got The Unfinished Swan to play too.

    *too many games*

Amazon.co.uk are now doing code based purchases for MS Points and Memberships (works out well for me as VAT gets removed and don't need to wait for delivery) just topped up on points before the buy back/conversion.. And seen screens for Brothers it looks interesting!

When is the Microsoft Points system being converted to real currency for non Beta users? There's a treasure trove of gaming in XBLA that I've avoided as I do not wish to participate in their silly monopoly money.

In some ways there's more varied goodness to be found here than with most me-too shooty-stabby 'AAA' retail games! Hopefully it all carries over to Xbox One...

You do realise that the monopoly money can be paid for with real currency, and not your soul?

Only on GoD. At the moment everything else needs to be done with MSP but yes its not evil.

Needless extra hoop I'm expected to jump through. And just so MS can sell points in excess bundles to encourage you to keep on spending. Pointless indeed.

Most games I can think of are either 800, 1200, or 1600 msp. Points come in 400, 800, 1200 and 2100 bundles, so you rarely have to buy more than you'd need.

It's pretty hassle-free if you use online retailers such as electronic first:

    http://www.electronicfirst.com/cheap-microsoft-points/1200-points-eu/

You can check out using Paypal and the code comes about 5 minutes later into your email inbox. There are other sites out there that offer a similar service, but I'm damned if I can remember the names.
I suppose it depends on how much of an extra hoop you consider doing this, though.

I did get an email from MS overnight saying that they were soon reverting to local currency, but there was no date given.

    EDIT:

Simply CD keys are cheaper when using Paypal, but they're out of stock of a lot of denominations ATM.

@anon_ but rather nice when they do 2000 points for about 3, instead of about 14.

@Br0ken_Engli5h You often do need to buy more points than you want though. First off 2100 doesn't work out well, because say you spend 1600 you're left with 500 points left- so inevitably have to top up more.

Also don't forget that you can add points straight to your account, in which case you have to do it in multiples of 500, which doesn't remotely equate to game prices.

    @Stranded87

Or you could just buy 1200 and 400 points separately.

@Br0ken_Engli5h Yeah you could, but sometimes the prices for 2100 are better. My point is simply that not all of the points batches work out well and that was almost certainly a conscious decision on Microsoft's part to get people to spend more than they actually want, particularly if you want the points then and there and then have to use the multiples of 500 that you can buy direct from your 360.

so the choice is effectively between buying the 'correct' amount of points at a worse conversion rate, or the 'wrong' amount of points at a better rate.

For anyone in this thread, the chance that they would never ever want to buy a game again is so low that having an odd 100 points (approx 70p!) spare really isn't a problem.

If you're really worried, just buy a 4200 point card instead, leaving you 4 or 5 games and no spare points anyway, more during sales periods.

Yeah, but you forget that those leftover M$ points sit in your account accruing interest, which M$ NEVER pay up on. The siphoned interest then goes on to fund global terrorism and newer, more sinister versions of DRM.

I don't care about the 'value' in the points system. It's the principal. I don't like that MS basically try and compel us to spend more than we need in such a sneaky way. Just advertise a real price and charge my card, done.

I always find I'm 100 points short for everything so have to buy at 400 which is gash.

that's what Sony do, but you also find that games cost around 2-3 more on PSN compared to XBLA.

As such, I much prefer a slightly oblique pricing system, meaning I occasionally have an odd pound or two sitting idle, rather than paying more every single time.

Hmm. Trying to connect to live for the first time in a couple of months. Can't. Won't let me.

Apparently my password is wrong or there is no account associated with my email. Same details enable me to log in via my tablet. Any ideas?

Did you try logging into xbox.com instead? Or any other Live site, like Outlook?

How do I clear the cache?

I think it's in the settings now, under the button where you can view the contents of your hard drive.

    And yes, that's weird.

As long as it worked, we don't care. Anything's better that customer support!

Just downloaded The Walking Dead: 400 Days. My first XBLA purchase in... ages!

Upcoming deals here. Don't get too excited, though.

I'm getting pretty fed up of the crapness of Deal of the Week. They seem to have pretty much given up doing XBLA deals in favour of GoD stuff, which is annoying because you can already get retail games cheaply on disc but there's no other option for XBLA titles.

    Well, there's Steam. :p

Edit: aha! Zone of the Enders HD next week! Hopefully it'll be dirt-cheap in a PayPal region.
