    Don't get this.

Is it not a good idea, if you are planning Backwards Compatibility, to get the most benefit out of it by ensuring your user base have a large library of games they are going to be eager to keep hold of?
    What makes more sense?

What you said? Or MS offering mass discounts to get as much money as possible from an infinite stock inventory, before everyone moves onto the new console which has a stack of new games available? It smacks more of MS trying to maximise profits before the market shrinks. And why would the market shrink if the 720 has BC?

It points quite heavily to 360 d/l content not being BC. Why risk cannibalising your future console's XBLA offerings by offering a bunch of cheap BC 360 games for gamers to carry over?

If I redeem my 1 month trial that came with the console will my account be eligible for the deals?

Not sure about the 1-month trials, but the two-day trials certainly don't get you in.

Crumbs. I might just redeem the code anyway and see as I've no intention of playing online but certainly fancy SotN at that price (or, I could jsut play something from my 15-odd game backlog!)

Some decent stuff on 30th. Anybody have a view on NBA jam? I would recommend Joe Danger2 as a bit like trials but with a cartoon feel and would thoroughly recommend pacman.

What about NFL blitz? It looks like it might be fun

Saw this - could mean some more reductions....but mainly on popular games which people already have???

"Xbox UK have unveiled a new initiative on Xbox LIVE Arcade which they are dubbing the 'Ultimate Collection'. The premise here is a little wooly and appears to be limited to the UK, at least at the moment. At its core, it's an effort towards compiling a list of the greatest XBLA titles from a predetermined shortlist of thirty as chosen by Microsoft. So, whilst it's probably not going to be a definitive list and is likely influenced as much by advertising revenue as it is downloads or ratings, it should still surface some good (if not predictable) titles.

    Here's the official word:

Announcing The Ultimate Collection - our pick of the 30 most popular games on XBLA. Vote fortnightly for a new game to join the collection - the winning title will get 50% off for a week!"

NBA JAM is great fun with friends, but pretty dull by yourself.

A thought: have there really been that many amazing sales to warrant the idea of selling 'off' stock on preparation for non-BC.

i fully accept and dislike that BC might be missing, but has MS really become that generous all of a sudden? Most of the time you lot moan about their stinginess. With good reason!

@RedSparrows - the GoD sale was pretty generous, but the XBLA sales haven't been any different really.

So having picked up MotN, I AM ALIVE and Quantum Conundrum in the recent sales it looks like I am at a loss at the last 400+ MSP game to get my free month of Live..

Any suggestion for little underrated gems in the 400-800 bracket that I might have missed out on? (I've probably got most of the "big" names on XBLA)

Fusion Genesis is worth looking in to. A twin stick space shooter meets RPG.

Gatling Gears - best twin stick shooter on XBLA imo. Brilliant in co-op too.

Greed Corp - turn based strategy game, one of my favourite XBLA games.

PB Winterbottom - quite similar to Braid and with an interesting art style

I think they're all 800 points. Greed Corp would probably be my top pick from those but only if you like strategy games

They kinda drop a bollock making these gold only. I'd have spent about 3000 moon points over the past 4 weeks but as i no longer pay for gold, and instead get MP titles for the PS3 they don't get any of my money at all.

Plus these sales are hardly going to sell gold to anyone on their own.

Another decent cheap strategy title is Panzer General at 400MSP.

very card / board game-y in feel if you think that would appeal.

Problem with Panzer is the rigmarole of calculating odds. The game does it for you, but it takes a while and isn't much fun waiting. Also the size of the cards on the screen is too small, so in UI terms it's poor.

www.hatchetjob.com - more than games. "Seemingly trivial, surprisingly deep"

Renegade Ops is worth a look, I think it has been perma-reduced to 800 - a kind of Jungle Strike-a-like but in land vehicles for the most part.

    Iron Brigade

    Skulls of the Shogun maybe?

All worth a go at the Trials imho.

Also, I assume you've played Bastion on some other platform, as it isn't on your XBLA activity?

Interesting, the release was supposed to be delayed until, I thought, next week's wednesday slot, or beyond.

Just DL it now, will know if it works in a minute or two.

    Monaco demo link:

Reminds me of pacman for some reason, or am I just playing it wrong?

@Schmove - I think it's meant to be like pac-man ce dx. Basically mixing running away, stealth and hunting.

It feels like an odd mix of Pac-Man, Crusader: No Remorse, and.. um... a bundle of other things actually.

So the demo definitely works. It seems to give you the first 'chapter' (made of five levels) in the Trial download. It seems to have been made very much with co-op in mind. Each character has a unique ability, each ability is fun and all that, but they're clearly designed to be used in conjunction with one another.

The graphical style is charming, if a bit confusing at first when you can't tell which bits of the screen you can pass through, and which bits are solid walls and objects. Like a new-age, neon version of top-down GTAs, but played in a series of more zoomed-in environments. The variable line of sight thing is good, too - again, it seems tricky as all buggery at the beginning, but will probably be easier when you get used to it, and when the 'co-op vision' is enabled with other players.

Has local or online co-op (the demo perhaps only local).

I wonder if they'll fix the pricing today, and the release will only have been delayed by two days total, or if this is the 'broken' version that will be fixed by their resubmission?

According to the guys twitter the trial being up is a mistake on MS's behalf, so who knows when the full game will be out. Still, nice to have the trial for now at least.

Begs the question of how can they make such a cock up though? The trial is still up! I'm willing to concede that I'm ignorant in such matters but still...
