I still haven't made it past Spelunky's Jungle area. Those spike traps are bloody nasty!

Played more Walking Dead last night and man alive, that's one hell of a game! Yes, it's not a very 'gamey' game, but I'm totally hooked. Brilliant!

I've opened up the shortcut to the jungle level and have made it to the next level but I didn't last long there. Great game though, perfect for a 20 min session while you're killing time.

I bought Puzzle Quest over the weekend and I think that was a stupid idea as other games I want to finish might be out of luck for a while - rather addicitve.

We have all been telling you for 8 months how good the walking dead is, blerk :)

I never got past the jungle in spelunky, ended up getting a bit bored of it

I just looked again, and Hearthfire's not available through the daily deals thing at the mo. It's just not listed there. Either they're sorting it, or it's not actually on sale (probably the former, but we'll see).

Not tried cloud saves since the recent issues but, according to Major Nelson, all is now well and those affected will get a 1 month extension to gold subscriptions.

Nelson had Hearthfire on his official list for today at 200, so chances are they're fixing it now.

I think Dawnguard was 1200 points, which makes the 800 disappointingly stingey. Particularly when it's supposed to be a bit crap as well.
It was 1600, and it's not crap.

    Dragonborn is MUCH better, though.

For those that didn't get Wreckateer when it was free: me and my oldest finally had a go this morning and it is excellent fun! Not sure how much it is now in the sale, but if you have a Kinect you really should pick it up :)

is walking dead a good game to play with the Missus?

Someone advised me that LA Noire is a good game to play with the bird as 'they'. I.e some of thise those without a Y chromosome, quite enjoy some of the decision making/emotional bits - same kind of thing?

I keep thinking about getting Braid. I've got about 2000MSP floating about doing nothing. I have this weird 'thing' about game sizes though (and DLC), it fucks me off when they don't use the full 2GB, it always makes me feel like I'm being robbed in some way. Even though I love Fez, it really hacked me off that the game size is so small, it just makes me think what could've been if they'd used every megabyte. And that's what applies to Braid. I looked up some reviews last night, saw EG's glowing 10/10, mooched through Braid's thread here where I was spoilt for choice with praising comments. I even played the demo myself ages ago and was suitably impressed by its wibbly wobbly timey wimey mechanics. But it's only 144MB. I'm immediately imagining the behemoth it could be if it was 2GB, and that stops me from buying it, it's stopped me from buying it for God knows how long.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, will someone tell me to stop being such a tart.

@monkehhh GLOL. Tell me about it.

I know filesize is indicative of nothing at all, a dev could pad it all out with FMV or something just as pointless (*cough*FFXIIIonthreediscs*cough*), but it's like a thorn in my side all the time when I make digital purchases. I'm my own worst enemy, as always. I think I'm right in saying imagine what could be, but at the same time it's unfair to penalise a game because of that. Yet I keep doing it.

/goes to play Braid demo again

Sonic adventures 2 is over 2 gig and is turd, braid and fez are small downloads and are both good.

As other peoples girlfriends say to their partners (although not mine, obviously...), size isn't everything

There's quite a good resource here - try searching for "400" through the page to browse the 400-pointers. :)

This is one of the craziest things I have ever read on here! On a scale of 1 to 10 that's officially 'batshit mental'!

    Congrats, Spong! :D

So is that it for the deals, or are they going to spring some surprises on us today?

Apparently that's it. The final day was a bit of a damp squib to be honest. Skyrim "on sale" for 25? I can find it in the shops for less.

Along with monkehhh, you've talked me into ignoring the screaming voice in my head. I've just unlocked the full game, happy new year to me.

I think my logic holds some water though, especially when talking about retail games and their DLC. It pisses me off when I install a game and find it fills barely half a DVD, or find that a DLC is barely a few hundred megabytes.

I can understand how you'd feel cheated if you paid a lot of money and the game only lasted a couple of hours, but I'm obviously totally failing to understand what impact the 'size on disk' has. Especially as the 'bulkiest' parts of a modern game are the textures and videos, not the game itself.

I actually prefer it when XBLA games are smaller, as I'm more inclined to download the trial and give it a whirl if it doesn't require 2gb of time/space.

Especially when Homefront takes up a shit-load of space and lasts me (Captain Slow) 4 hours, then something like Fez lasts me aaaages.

Probably just as well Hotline Miami isn't on XBLA, it's only 173 meg and most of that is the soundtrack.

    This space left intentionally blank.

I understand the reasoning but it's just not how games are made, they're built to be as cheap as possible while still maintaining a certain level of production values. This means it makes sense to re-use as many assets as possible which saves time(and thus money) re-making more trees/crates/whatever and has the added bonus of taking up less space.

The gameplay parts of the game are dealt with mostly by engine code and scripting which is usually incredibly small. If a game is small it can mean that there's not as much to the game or simply that it's better optimised and more carefully thought out.
