More on Spelunky. Echo those who are talking about how tough it is.

I too have reached the temple and I think basically at this point its a tough ride. To unlock the Temple shortcut the third item is a key from the Mines. So you have to first find a key in one of the Mines levels (don't think its guaranteed each run through since I've done many runs of the whole Mines without finding one) and then take it with you all the way through Mines/Jungle/Ice Caves to the awaiting Tunnel Man, without dying of course. And that is by no means easy.

Carrying the key everywhere puts another dynamic on your playstyle. You will likely end up relaying the key back and forth throughout the levels, hoping that it doesn't either fall on you and kill you, or you lose it (either somewhere like the ocean floor levels or the dark levels). Makes the dark levels even tougher as you are juggling torch carrying with managing damsels/weapons/key.

Basically harder than Dark Souls, but very addictive. :)

I was enjoying Spelunky greatly. But the temple can go fuck itself. And just when I think I've got to grips with it, the game decides to give me another dark level. Have got to Olmec a few times but seem to get squished quite quickly.

I've only made it past The Mine once.

I took a look at the Frogger trial. It looks like a committee grabbed graphical flourishes from the brilliant PAC Man updates and pasted them over a different old game. The theme music appears to be stolen from a certain popular outfit what dress as robots, and the tiny slice of the game they made available for the demo (among many locked modes) sounds like the least interesting of them.

    I didn't buy it.

@ubergine - my thoughts on the game exactly. The user ratings were pretty poor as well.

Although saying that, spelunky is averaging less than 3 1/2 stars. To put that in perspective, xmen arcade has 4 stars...

So is it better or worse than X-Men? If only we knew someone that owned it?

Surely Hyrdrophobia is worth 200 points, didn't they patch it to turn it from a shit game to an average game?

Think I may chance it anyway, 200MSP is loose change really.

Is it Tony Hawks this week by the way?

@andytheadequate Do you know, I don't think I've ever noticed the ratings? Also, Spelunky may be brilliant, but I can see not everyone will flock to it.

I'll cave in for Hydrophobia this time, yeah. Didn't think much of the demo back then (after the patch), but I do like the price point. :)

Judging by the leaderboards, it's done about 20k sales so far which is okay but by no means what it deserves. I've got points on the way to buy it, but there's this little bit of my brain saying "it'll be deal of the week in about a month". I really ought to pay full whack for it though, considering how much time I've put into the PC version for free. :)

I'll be going for it soon as I finish Fez which i've only just properly got into. I love it!

The QR code puzzle I found made me grin, it was pretty cool. Another which made my controller vibrate only the left and right sides in a sequence I had to follow was nice as well. Not had to look anything up 'yet', but i've not worked out the alphabet or the numbering system so far. I thought i had from some poster I found in a school, but alas no judging by my failure at the 'bell' puzzle.

It wouldn't be worth it if they paid you 200msp for it. Avoid at all costs. I made the same mistake when it was 400msp.

Hyprophobia's in the MS studios sale (as opposed to DotW). I bought this during a previous sale (400msp I think), and didn't feel cheated. It is decidedly average, however. Worth loose change but little more...

    Why look, it's a blog:

Made it to level 2-1 on Spelunky last night for the first time and it was a dark level. I died very quickly.
I did give a bomb to that tunnelling chap though.

Any thoughts about Section 8, is there likely to be anyone playing it? Or will the few Section 8 fans be playing the sequel instead?

Both games servers are dead, which is a shame.

Hydrophobia is utterly awful. Even the name is awful (hydrophobia is the medical term for rabies, the word they were looking for is aquaphobia). It's a shame because a lot of effort seems to have been put into it, but it's all seemingly gone into the water effect (which is pretty neat at first, but you'll be tired of it by the end of the demo so it's definitely not worth buying the game for, even at spare change prices).

Honestly, even if they were giving it away, I'd tell you to skip it.

Did I read that there is a patch due for Fez or is it all good? Hoping to start it in the very near future. Again. Properly this time.

There was a patch which failed and they pulled and they are working on a new one.

I've yet to be faced with any issues in my game at the moment though!

Think I might do the same. I'm definitely going to have a go on the demo.

I'd say Hydrophobia is probably worth 200 points. Not because it is very good or anything, it is distinctly below average, but there is still some joy to be had from the game for such a paltry price. Playing with the water and the weapons is strangely enjoyable though. I paid 400 for it, and couldn't quite believe it was every 1200 points, a price at which I would have felt somebody was playing a joke on me.

Section 8: Prejudice is the game in the sales, even though it says Section 8 on the dashboard - it is an absolute bargain at that price, because the game is brilliant, but as others have said repeatedly in this thread, the servers are largely dead. This is a great shame because the maps are great, the upgrade system is great, the Dynamic Combat Missions make every session different. The game might even be worth the money just for the single player, which is a kind of practice mode for the MP really, and the 'Horde' mode which would probably require other players, given how tough it gets. I keep thinking I'm going to play it again one day, because it is great. It was also the first game to allow you to rent servers on the 360, sometime ahead of all the fanfare Battlefield 3 made about being the first.

Section 8- both are truly great games IMO. I fired up prejudice a few months ago and ther was only one other on the server I played on. Some US ones might be busier. The first Section 8 had one or two fairly full servers right up to the release of Prejudice when I got rid of it. It was mostly the same players night in night out though.

If you want to pend some money on it, it's not a waste as the bots are actualy quite fun to play against, but it is certainly better with a team working together and with friends. I'd probably recommend Prejudice most, but they're both good fun.

So it's still possible to play Section 8 online, it just might be hard to find a match?

Yup. Can play with bots easily though.

I have Prejudice, happy to play if I am not Haloing/Dragoning/RUSEing.

another vote for 'Hydrophobia is awful'

it's a nice gimmick in search of a game. Unless you're really skint, and absolutely desparate to play something new, avoid it even at 200 points.
