Off topic, but for some reason, this thread currently shows (and links to) page 481 as last page, instead of the actual page 489.

EDIT: Scratch that. As soon as I posted, it corrected itself. I wonder,c could it be that the last comment on the previous page shows up as deleted? One for craigy, me thinks!

Weekend Cheeve Challenge really is up now. Fable Heroes, Toy Soldiers: Napalm Pack and Alien Hominid HD, so that's me out of the running already this week!

Bastard hard this week! I've put hours into Fable Heroes and only got one of those achievements. (Complete Albion). The Toy Soldiers flex inclusion is interesting as I won the code last week - but don't have the full game. Have AH but I'm so poor at it.

Ah well. Good job I've glummed a review code for Awesomenauts, hey?

Reading that two of the Fable Heroes achievements are impossible as The Cloud level is locked. It was the case that the top 100 players had to reach enough gold to open it... it was open last night (because I completed it in both worlds and grabbed the achievements) but reports are suggesting Lionhead have locked it again because of a glitch.

So, yeah. Good luck this week, folks.

I'm shit at Alien Hominid but I got the achievements they wanted. They're really not that hard if you know what to do so don't be put off by the game's reputation.

Got a bit of a problem, wonder if anyone on here knows how to fix it. I've just moved house and don't have the internet yet. When I signed in on my profile (but not on live) it wouldn't let me play any of my xbla games as it said they were all trials. Any idea what's caused it and how I can fix it?

If they've been downloaded on another console you need to transfer the licenses.

Likely the same console but a different house I'm guessing rather than a different console?

Sounds bizarre andy, no idea but I hope your house move went ok :)

    It went very well thanks.

Its the same console just a different house. It will probably work fine once I connect to Xbox live, but I should be able to play them offline as well

If that's the only console you've used your profile to buy stuff on, strange! You should be able to play stuff offline on the console you purchased with, and online when you recover your profile to a different console.

Yeah, sounds like an authentication issue. Which is real odd, but will fix when you have Live back.

    @andytheadequate
It's a 2 step process. Transferring the license isn't enough, you then need to download the content again in order to be able to play it offline (you just need to select redownload if it's already on your HDD and it'll download the license key in about 2 seconds).

Here's the skinny on how Minecraft 360's multiplayer works, courtesy of VideoGamer
4J Studios is also restricted in one of the game's most central features: multiplayer. The joint efforts and saint-like patience of a large group has often birthed some of the game's most compelling achievements and breathtaking sights, and here the PC's dedicated servers take a backseat to four-player P2P matchmaking and split-screen. While neither can compete with the suite of tools and options available to PC server owners, 4J has produced a competent use of the Xbox Live framework, with players persisting in a 'host' world that never dies but, sadly, only lives when its owner is playing.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound too good :(

Why would you buy in on the 360 anyway?

Mainly lack of having to / being able to set up a server I suppose?

The 360 version doesn't support all the mods, and seeing as that's part of the draw, why would you get it?

Because the main game is fun as well? I'm only likely to play it with friends online so that's no problem for me really

The main game is fun indeed. And while mods are a plus side to the PC Version, being able to play with friends that don't have decent enough PC's is the selling factor for me.

I'll be playing with RL friends so the p2p servers won't affect us as we'll arrange when to play together.

The lack of persistence is a bit shitty though - I guess the owner is allowed to save the world they create and other players can join when they're online? The world just dying on disconnection would indeed be crappy.

You have a local world that is saved on your system and when you load it you can play it in online or offline mode. In online mode it's accessible by friends so it is persistent it's just limited by one person having to effectively act as a server.

You can kinda see how it works in the GB quicklook (although there are probably better videos out there)

As a party / group of friends then it's not too bad, if one person is custodian of the world. Definitely has some scope for getting a group of people together on a certain night of a week and continuing your adventures. Split-screen on a huge TV could be awesome (remember 4-player Goldeneye on a tiny screen?!), just not sure if anyone I know would be in to it.

I play on the PC EG server but to be honest it's largely people working away on their own stuff, I get the impression that if you have to organise it and all join one person's game then it'd be a more collaborative experience.

See I would, but there again you'd need a dedicated group to make it 'work as intended'. The thought that 20+ hrs of gametime would be up in smoke because Joe Random decided, eventually, to play CoD instead would annoy me greatly.

These points I was sort of saving are probably better served buying Fez and getting a PC version of Minecraft if these reports are true, which is a real shame as I prefer my social gaming on the 360.

    /2 cents

Apparently the map size is massively reduced in the 360 version of Minecraft too (roughly 1 biome in size). Reports from NeoGAF saying that a single map can be crossed in under 4 minutes, including circumnavigating mountains and swimming :-(

Hmm, I know Live probably doesn't allow an easy way for there to be persistent Minecraft worlds but it is a little bit disappointing that there isn't some way of providing persistent worlds. There are certainly other games on Live that do actually use servers, after all, albeit none that hold changeable worlds. Perhaps it is an issue of the cost of running these servers being well beyond the Live subs or the 1600MSP price point.

I was even hopeful that they might do something like Total Miner: Forge, the 240MSP Indie MC clone that allows you to save your world and send it to other players. Certainly, the TM:F worlds are not all that big, although they do go rather deep, and I'm not sure if the people you have sent your worlds to can send them back to you, and even if they could it isn't a clean or persistent way of keeping worlds synchronised if you are sharing with more than two players.

I might look to see if my aging, noisy PC can run Minecraft after all.
