    Oh my gawd...!

Looks like Revolution Software are going to be the sole developers of point-and-click adventures then, and they're coming back with an absolute doozy...! "Beneath a Steel Sky II" was confirmed by Charlie Boy Cecil yesterday, when the domain name reg was "leaked". Wrinkly old PC gamers (like me) will remember "BASS" as being a rather nifty adventure with plenty of twists and turns, and a plot not unlike the superb film "Dark City". Am praying that this won't be another "tomb-raider-alike" as with the latest Broken Sword adventure but if anyone can do the old game justice, it's Revolution...

OK in its very vaguest sense it's a little bit like Dark City (single bloke trying to overthrow vast machinations)

Spose it's pretty much like any "good vs evil" thing though innit...

Don't know why but whenever I watch Dark City I always think of BASS...(and vice versa) so maybe it's just me.

Now all we need are remakes of some of the other classic point and clickers like...oh I dunno, Sam and Max...

    /three minute silence..

    Cooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

I can remember a few things about BASS as it's been years since I played it. I remember the cyberspace section, which I got a bit stuck on. Managed to finish it, however. Class game that was.

I hope the 'puzzles' are better than Broken Sword 3, they were quite yawntastic and the interface made some sections quite tiresome. Whatever happened to the good ol' double click on an exit, eh?

Have only played the Demo of BSIII (kinda went off it, as I don't like these pseudo-3D fests that much) but I'm really hoping they realise that 3D is all well and good but it just can't compete with superb detailed bitmapped graphics a la BS1 & 2...

I remember BASS! Two bits stick out in my mind:

SPOILER (If you can spoil a ten year old game)

Bit where you swing from one building to another. Cool backgrounds IIRC.

Bit near the end with the guy with all his guts and wires hanging out.

I also remember the end being a dissapointment.

Final word. Maniac Mansion 3 plleeeeeeease!!!!

    /Does a little dance

This is fantasic news. Played it years ago on the Amiga (although I had a hard drive so it didn't matter how many disks it came on ;) and loved it. Bought it years ago on PC CD-Rom aaaaand... just started playing it again on my lappy. Talk about timing, eh? ^_^

Not sure how I'd feel about a 3D jiggery-pokery of its world... sad thing is 3D sells and bitmaps don't :/ My sister swears blind that BS3 is fantastic but... meh.

/Would love to see a sequel to some of the Delphine games, too

Think I played this on the PC. It's all a bit vague now...

    *slight spoiler*

Didn't you use Joey in the final scene?

What fantastic news. Hell, even if they screw it up, at least they are going to give it a go, which is better then doing nothing. Got that Lucas'arts'?

Thing is, don't you guys reckon there's STILL a good market for a well written well plotted adventure game? Some of the games I've really rated on the PC have been point-and-clickers (Bladerunner, Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis etc...) - maybe Revolution can start a revolution (see what I did there? Heh!) and make Point-and-clickers the next bandwagon to jump on...

I do like my Holy Trinity, but God knows you need something to tax the brain as well as the reflexes. I think that's what's missing at the moment. I can only play *so* much Emperor before I get bored again.

I was playing that on my Atari the other day, great game, my recollections of playing it the first time round were a bit hazy so it's like a new game all over again.

    It's a cracker...!

Of course, a proper remake of some of the classic Infocom adventures (Suspect, Deja-Vu, Leather Goddesses etc) would be very popsular wid me also...

Well, it will definitely be released on pc and consoles, so a point and click adventure is very unlikely.

It will almost certainly be a similar system to broken sword 3. In fact I think Charles cecil once said something to the effect that 'point and click is dead'.

Deja Vu was ace, all those clues, who are you? Were you drugged? Why is there a casino in the basement? Why does the loo look like a hippo?

I also liked Borrowed Time too, very creepy.

    Loom, good call sir.
While we're digging out old treasures does anyone rate the old Magnetic Scrolls adventures like Fish and Guild of Thieves?
I remember starting Thieves and Fish, being impressed with the parser and the nice pictures but i don't really remember much about them past that. It was 14 years ago after all and I probably got sidetracked by the old Level 9 adventures or more shamedly NetHack.
... just one more floor then i'll go to bed...
