Registered 5 years agoI've always found the Book Depository good. They sent me a wrong item once, which I got to keep along with the replacements.

Registered 6 years ago@Trafford I'd always found the Book Depository rather good up until now (though their packaging is woefully inadequate), and did get a good price on the book, but I don't think having to wait a month or more for a book you've had on preorder for such a long time is normal. And they've done nothing to make the wait less frustrating. -

Registered 5 years agoWell you could cancel it and shop elsewhere, instead of whinging on the internet. -

Registered 6 years agoSure, but half the fun of on-line shopping is "whinging" about it afterwards.
More to the point, canceling would be difficult as the book is getting scarce, and its price's gone up since April. Had I known, I'd have bought it on Amazon when it was roughly the same price.
Good luck with the preorder ! -

Registered 7 years agoThe order i have in for the book as been ridicolous. I ordered it two weeks ago. Originally sent via hermes. didn't arrive. got sent back (or rather they never bothered to drive down all teh way to cornwall), so had to re-order it on sunday day, first class, never got dispatched till wednesday evening. Piss take.
Going to treat myself to Spiderman blue next month i think.PSN - Cloudsheaven

Registered 6 years ago@joelstinton The book you mention, would that be The Invisibles Omnibus ? From the Book Depository ? Because they've stated they'd never received copies from their suppliers. -

Same. Amazon are being a bit naughty aren't they? Isn't the official release the 16th?

A work colleague let me read his copy of Lost at Sea by Bryan Lee O'malley. Very good! I recommend it.

Brilliant. One of Miller's finest, superior to Dark Knight Returns IMO. Helps that the artwork is gorgeous as well. -

I keep trying to read Avengers Forever, but it's really not clicking with me. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah, I found that one hard going as well. Most of the collection so far has been pretty good though, it's usually the older books which have been weak. They're so cheesy now. -

Registered 6 years agoI fully agree with you on the old books being cheesy. But only having read the Beano in the 80's I don't have anything to compaire them too.
So far I have two stand out's, Marvels and Ironman Extremis.
My most looked forward to comics (spiderman) have been quite a let down. -

Registered 6 years ago@PearOfAnguish I read the first Ultimate Ultimate spiderman collection adn thought it was really awesome so will need to get more. Really enjoying that and the ultimate xmen but need to buy more...and find time to read them.
I've also been reading the Judge Dredd case files. Only read teh first few volumes and although a bit cheesy some of the stories are great if a bit short. The second volume was a lot better than the first as it comprises of two sagas the first being hte cursed earth where Dredd goes across the wastelands of america and the second being about an insane dictator judge.
Oh and Unwritten Vol 6 will be out soon very excited about that

Registered 10 years agoGoogle books has previews of some graphic novels now but they're hard to browse around. I made a site to find and browse the ones with previews: comicbrowse.com.
A lot of the big names are missing, presumably because publishers haven't agreed to let google include previews, but IDW, Dynamite and some others are there.
Hope it's useful! -

Registered 5 years agoPicked up the Batman/Judge Dredd collection.
Lovely hardback GN. I think this is the only cross over that worked for me; hero and anti-hero trying to work together. Plus most of the artwork is astonishing (Simon Bisley at his very best in the first story).

Registered 5 years agoOh man, I must pick up some old Dredd stuff again. we were looking at what passes for kids comics for our son last weekend, and I found my eye drawn to 2000AD and the megazine.
Another few years to wait and I'll try him on them!
I did buy a collection of the Japanese judge thing that Frank Quitely drew. Who's name excapes me just now and it did remind me how much I enjoyed that universe. Old age is bad for the brain....
Edit: Shimura! The penny finally drops. I also bought we3, which I rather enjoyed.

I found out recently that one of the artists I work with used to do art for Judge Dredd. I went all OMG fangirl on him for a while.
