Post as often as you need to mate. If it helps you - and your wife in turn - get through this, then do what you need to do.

Thoughts are with you, prog. Best wishes to you and all your family.

We got some GREAT news today.

She had a biopsy on her adenoidal region. Doc is 99% sure this is the source. He told her it's not an aggressive type of cancer and that again, it's highly curable. He said he sees it about once a year and that he's seen patients far further along than she is make full recoveries.

Everything is in our favour. I feel very positive now. She's coming home shortly after being in for the biopsy. I made some healthy soup.

    /am cry with happy thoughts

My best mate got cancer a few years ago, it was shit. He recovered well though (non-hodgkins lymphoma)

I get a sinking feeling when this thread gets bumped, but for once that sounds like excellent news.

Really happy for you PG, and it's great that you're being so positive! My thoughts are with you and your wife.

Out of interest (and you don't have to answer, obviously), what is it that made her go to the doctor in the first place? Did she have some sort of pain in her throat / swelling or something?

I always find what triggers the initial doctors appointment to be interesting (especially for those who catch it early).

Last year she had an infection in the same area. They took needle samples, 2 of which were clear and one raised a question. They weren't sure if it was something nasty or infection related material. They sent her for a pet scan and that was inconclusive. They removed some tissue and it was benign.

They said they'd monitor her and called her back from CT scan 2 weeks ago. That showed a new swelling. They removed it and it tested positive.

She had no pain at all. Nothing. The infection was unrelated. So in many ways, having the infection was a godsend.

That's quite a fortunate catch. Good stuff (as much as it can be, obviously).

Yeah, it brought attention to it. Even though the scans were mostly clean the Prof was still raising eyebrows. Her adenoids were also concerning them, every time we had an appointment they'd look into her nostrils and have something to say about it.

She's 99% sure that the problem is up there and so is the Prof. They are testing yesterdays biopsy as we speak. Then we have to wait a few weeks for her the neck wound to heal before treatment begins.

This worried me and I thought maybe it would spread but the Prof assured that this wasn't the case. He said it's really not aggressive because of how slowly it's taken to show it's face.

She has no symptoms whatsoever currently. She's out to lunch with a friend. Very positive outlook, she's extremely confident of being cured. Seeing as the doctor used those exact words then that's what we are focusing on. It's very hard to not go to dark places but they obviously know what cell types respond well to treatment and apparently, this is one of the easiest to deal with.

    Don't panic!

Just linking to a lovely, poignant story on the front page.

Nice also to see that the last post here was good news. Hope you're both doing well, Progguitarist.

I have to say that the Race for Life advert that is being aired right now seems to draw heavily on our own FCUTA mantra!

Ha, I knew explaining to the organisers what my Race For Life backsign meant was a good idea ;)

@Progguitarist Great to hear your positivity.

My mum was diagnosed with cancer in December. They operated on it in January and she's making a full recovery :)

Hang in there. You will get through this and it'll make you a stronger man.

That said, it's not something anyone in the world should have to go through. Except maybe the usual fuckers. Those should go though this every day.

Turns out the results aren't in. Wasted trip. They still look into her nose every visit.

    Pet scan tomorrow in Dublin.
