Some progress, hopefully the end is in sight.

The insurance company said that they couldn't make arrangements based on sometime being well enough to fly in 3/4 days so are reviewing the doctor's report.

I have spoken with the doctor who is adamant he sees no reason why she can't so he will be emailing today or tomorrow to say she can fly.

Hopefully be home end of the week.

Saw the consultant last week. Unfortunately many of the prostate biopsy samples showed positive for cancer. Have got an appointment with the Oncology consultant next Thursday, but from the initial chat last week, I'm too young for radiotherapy, so their preferred option is likely to be surgery to remove the whole prostate plus a few other bits.

Had to go for a bone scan (I am currently radioactive - first thing the lady said to me was "You're not getting any superpowers!") and had my bladder and kidneys ultrasounded.

Early indications are that it hasn't spread anywhere else, but don't know for sure yet.

Sorry to hear that Boo! Prostate is a real slow one to spread so if they get it early enough the prognosis is good. My uncle had his removed years ago and is still going strong with no sign of further development. All the best Boo!

Fuck, sorry to hear that boo. Really hope they sort it out, and fingers crossed its not spread. Imagine getting the prostate biopsy wasn't too pleasant either :S

And best of luck to pk too - hope you manage to fly home soon!

Sorry to hear man, I can give you all the platitudes that exist but I won't, as a fellow cancer sufferer myself the shit doesn't hit till after you've finished, especially mentally. All I will say is try and continue with life as normal and if and when you need help don't let pride get in the way. All the best man.

    Cheers all.

Cosmic - I'll spend the rest of my life trying to forget that biopsy! Wasn't painful, just...

...well let's just say there's a little box by the operating theatre door where you can leave your dignity!

I just wanted to add my good luck wishes to you as well Boo
my mum is currently recovering from breast cancer. The operation was completely successful in removing it but she's going through chemo anyway as a precautionary measure. It recently reached the hair falling out stage so she decided to shave the lot off and my brother, in a show of solidarity, did one of those sponsored shave your head thing for mccmillans. They actually raised a fair bit of money.
I would have done it as well but i'm currently looking for a new job and didn't think it'd go down too well for interviewers as I tend to look like an escaped mental patient with a shaved head...

Best of luck, boo, give that sorry fucker one hell of a fight.

Also, "get well soon" wishes to creepiest-lizard's (strange choice of nickname) mum; I've been there with my mother and it wasn't easy.

Finally, pk1980, fingers crossed you'll be both home soon.

It is (I have learned) the most common form of cancer in men in the UK, with 1 in 8 affected in their lifetime.

So if you are reaching 'un certain age', you are black or a close male relative has suffered with prostate cancer, go and have a doctor poke a finger up your wazoo and get it checked out.

Well it sounds like you have done a stellar job sorting all this. It's probably worn you out as well.

Imagine you're probably looking forward to a decent kip in your own house as well!

Just a bed will do, two weeks plus on a rubber mattress isn't great.

Hope things go well Boo, I've had a similar "procedure" myself in the past and it was not the nicest thing I've ever been through.

...the doctor said it wasn't his best day either, which didn't help.

Hope things work out okay with the trip back PK.

We made it, it was delayed, but we made it. Rachel is in hospital with her sister, and I'm now slowly making my way home.
