It's a bit of a shame though. I was quite enjoying Dubai being a crazy futuristic city.
It's still going to be! Just a crazy dystopian Megacity One style futuristic city. Even better! \o/

Hardly a shock, the basics of their plan was "oil can't last forever, lets become the tourism / rich bastard capital of the world using oil money / debt" which is better than hoping we never perfect other energy sources, BUT the fundamental plan then got taken over by idiot sultans who all wanted to compare dicks using buildings and things went downhill from there.

Even in a boom their developments reeked of vulgar, new money decadence and its little wonder their customers are Russian Mafia, Footballers and more Sultans, who all love to show us peasents just how rich they are by buying 5 houses on sand islands they never go to.

Fuck them all frankly, some cool ideas and I agree it created alot of employment but the crass nature of the MINES BIGGEST and 100 MILLION POUND PARTYS LOL was getting old.

It's not even as if the buildings are that great. From what I understand people get seasick at the top of the Burj and a miscalculation with the 'world' islands means it has a projected lifespan of 15 years.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Naaah, they're going to build massive solar power farms and sell it to us at treble the price of oil. :'(

What we should do is sort out our wind and tidal power and undercut them. But we won't because we're a shit democracy where the plebs would rather have tax cuts now and let their grandchildren burn in hell.

    Fusion power and LS9

    Screw the middle east.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

My favourite Dubai fact is, over a quarter of the world's cranes 'live' there.

The steel ones, not Crazy Legs type creatures.

A video from just over a week ago detailing the real estate crash in Dubai.

    Also, this:
Local police have found at least 3,000 automobiles -- sedans, SUVs, regulars -- abandoned outside Dubai International Airport in the last four months. Police say most of the vehicles had keys in the ignition, a clear sign they were left behind by owners in a hurry to take flight.

The global economic crisis has brought Dubai's economic progress, mirrored by its soaring towers and luxurious resorts, to a stuttering halt. Several people have been laid off in the past months after the realty boom started unraveling.

On the night of December 31, 2008 alone more than 80 vehicles were found at the airport. "Sixty cars were seized on the first day of this year," director general of Airport Security, Mohammed Bin Thani, told DNA over the phone. On the same day, deputy director of traffic, colonel Saif Mohair Al Mazroui, said they seized 22 cars abandoned at a prohibited area in the airport.
The lump on his arm is where the government control chip was implanted after the RBS buyout.

Once a year, every British taxpayer gets to control LB for five minutes, until RBS pay off their loan. I made him do the International Sign for 'dickhead' to a big hairy biker.

Rape bear doesn't often get people pushing back on him, but given LB's recent shafting I think he'll take it like a pro.
