Can't wait for this. It'll be splendid, like two twin sisters doing naughty things to each other with chocolate eclairs...

    Anyway

    EG SERVER?

We wouldn't have the problem with no one being there, you could just sit and listen to the music for God knows how long.

In early demo reels they didn't show any of those and I'd figured they'd killed them off as being a bit too hard to implement. But oh crikey, if they're in there and you play a GI creeping through the jungle only to be skewered by some huge weighted swinging spike thingy, that would be just too damned good...

Reading the rather unforgiving review, they seem to suggest that most modern graphics cards would be up to the job. I mean, what serious PC gamer these days is still using a 32mb TNT2 or a shitty old ATI Mach 64.

I was rather surprised "Bouncing Bettys" were in the game, they are friggin' nasty. Something for us engie types to get used to using I should think.

Looking forward to BF:V but from the screenshots it seems to be more Mekong Delta and surrounding areas type terrain rather than being dense jungle.

Edit: ah I see it's the NVA scouts that have the BBs, that makes an interesting weapon for the fastest class.

I think dense jungle kinda places are usually real system killers, So I am especially glad they don't have them :p

One thing did occur to me. How exactly are you supposed to hide in Jungle cover?

What I mean is, in current BF1942 it doesn't matter how well you hide yourself, if someone targets you either directly or indirectly, your sig comes up above your head, giving away your position even if you're not in line of sight. This even seems to work inside buildings at times, and is one of the things about BF that annoys the fuck out of me.

So in BF Vietnam, you'll be sitting in a bush/tree/whatever, and someone comes along and passes their aim across you, your name pops up - how the foch are you supposed to hide?

Nah it's in there, you can see it in the screenies...

It needs to be there really or you're just going to shoot your teammates (because, as we all know, no bugger ever checks on the map whether you're friendly or enemy)

Isn't there a server setting to only show names up to a certain distance away? So you could set it to 1 metre and if you hadn't spotted the enemy by that distance you basically deserve to be capped? ;p

Could be - I haven't "served" a game of BF so I don't know if there's a setting like that. Pity the thing can't do line of sight stuff to determine whether you'd really be able to see the person or not but I guess that would take a mighty engine overhaul and slow the thing down to a snail's pace.

Well maybe they could adjust it so that you only see your teams' tags.

Should be easy enough, worked well in SOF2 although your team tags showed at all times

Nah that wouldn't work. Though, left as it is with say, a small delay in the "tag" appearing would be OK, because you'd be walking through the jungle and if you spotted anyone would probably unload on 'em, friend or foe simply because it gets that tense playing BF1942...

With TK switched off on the server it won't be a prob but for some reason most people that host BF on servers seem to be a bit retarded and think TK switched on makes for a better game, but then ban TKers (whether accidental or on purpose) the minute they TK...

    TK? I mean OK?
