    Only just noticed this!

I think it looks amazing. Guns, equipment, and much of the environment like the buildings, cargo crates with the WY logo on and the terrain looks like it could have been lifted right out of the movie.

I dont think the xenos are as well animated as Rebellions AvP xenos though, and the Smart gun didnt seem to be all that lethal, the player was shooting just those couple of xenos for ages.

I fookin LOVE the look of the motion tracker.

The problem with the game is probably going to be the lack of variety of enemy types, but they cant do much about that. The environments and equipment look really great though.

Sorry mate, but you LIKE the WY logo everywhere?
I must have missed those plastered everywhere in the movies.
  • Deleted user 11 June 2012 13:38:49
I didn't see it everywhere, mainly on cargo containers, which is realistic enough.  It is fairy prominent in Aliens, in the colony at least.

It's not in your face in Aliens though, in fact it's not a focal point, which game devs seem desperate to crowbar in.

'look, look! It's a Weyland Yutani logo!' wink wink.

If it sounds like a pulse rifle, and the game is intense and leaves you feeling scared and desperate, then I'll feel like it's got Aliens. If it's a skin for COD (or Brothers in Arms in this case), I'll be gutted.

There's a massive difference between AVP2 (Monolith, 2001) and the newer Rebellion Aliens vs Predator. This looks, unfortunately, more like the latter, but is what I was expecting :(
I'll probably still end up playing it though.

    @psychokitten
That's the impression I'm getting too.
The aliens themselves just skitter about and the speed of them is supposed to scare us, but it's their sheer numbers, and ability to wait patiently that I liked.
AVP just felt all wrong. And here we are, after delay and delay and what do they show?

    Multiplayer :(
  • Deleted user 11 June 2012 13:58:09
Really?  I didn't feel it was too overused in AvP.

And in all the vids we've seem of ACM it doesn't seem like its  saturated with it either.

    Edit- the WY logo

    Watch the films back...
Weyland Yutani is barely anywhere really. It's 'the company' for the most part.

WY became a big logo with the invention of the AvP movie dross.

This is the first mp trailer isn't it? The others have been sp and a concept movie trailer.

  • Deleted user 11 June 2012 14:12:53

I expect some single player gameplay that isn't on-rails or cut scene.

Do you work for Gearbox? Serious question.
  • Deleted user 11 June 2012 14:38:06
Yeah, its a crime to be enthusiastic about a new game or console isn't it.

    Do fuck off.

 Calm down pet, simple question. I forgot there's no discussion to be had on forums.

    And it looks shit!

Nah. Logo is all over the shop in Aliens: The Director's Cut. Although I agree it was left as background info for the most part.

It looks like Dead Space with aliens...which isn't such a bad thing I guess.

New trailer is up, I'm not into the awards, kills and challenges flashing up om the screen. I hope that only appears in MP and not SP.

    @Matt_B

I think it's in the SP to but seeing as they keep going on about tension and atmosphere I reckon it will merely be an "arcade mode" rather than there in the main campaign breaking the immersion....at least I would hope that's the case!

Anyways came in to share this. Didn't do multiplayer back then but AvP2 had a mode called "Evacuation" which has apparently heavily influenced CM's "Escape" MP mode.

Think L4D versus, 4v4 with 4 marines having to escape a map with the other 4 hunting as aliens with "different properties" which means different classes I guess. Sounds fun, L4D versus is pretty much all I play online outside of COD these days so certainly up my street, even makes me want to dig out the old AvP2 to take a look at Evacuation.

Anyone at the Expo visited the Aliens stand yet, report please, I need first impressions!!!

New less than enthusiastic preview article on eg front page.

    I posted in the comments:

Couple of reasons why I'm not worried (yet): 1) the article states that this preview is based on a hands off demo of a short gameplay segment, 2) A:CM was one of my fav games at the EG Expo, and it was clearly in a different league to Duke Nukem Forever both graphically and gameplay wise.  The aliens movements did seem slightly stiff, but not unconvincing, and as this article states the environment and sound fx are spot on and help to create an immersive game.

The preview has really left me feeling a bit worried. If it's not scary, if it doesn't capture that atmosphere of the films (well, the first three) and if it just has you running around on endless fetch quests, then this could bomb.

Which would make me really, really gutted. Aliens has been one of my favourite films since I was a kid and the last time I played something that really captured the tension of it was on the bloody Commodore 64.

17 weeks for a rescue team.

17 years since the Techy Manual was published.

17 issues before the Dark Horse comic went under.

17 copies on every pre-owned shelf soon after release.

    17.

I wasnt impressed with the footage to be honest.

Graphics looked functional, but not exceptional. The game seems VERY hand-holdy (place 5 sensors where we say, put this turret in the EXACT spot we've marked, etc, etc) and, worst of all, the gunplay looks....bland.

Yes, they've given us the Pulse Rifle, but it doesnt look or sound meaty enough somehow - the fact that the Xenos appear to be bullet-sponges doesnt help.

Very disappointed - like others are saying, its still early days yet, but initial impressions are not good.

I've only played (and abandoned) the last AvP and it raised an interesting problem which I'd never thought of prior to that...It's that the Xenos are simply too fast and agile as enemies to work...

Too make it more shooty you'd have to dumb them down and they'd lose their connections to the film Xenos...If you keep them like the films as a player you'd be hitting walls for most of the time...

But I agree with the comments when people ask for something a bit more survival horror rather than shooty-shooty...

I've pinned all my hopes and wishes for 2013 as far as gaming goes on this new Aliens game.

Finally I can use all my Aliens quotes in context.

But....They can't possibly make the game as good as the version in my noggin.

Please use all the Borderlands magic dust you have surplus from that trade with Beelzebub in making this Awesome Gearbox.

8 minutes of gameplay here :

Personally, i think its got that very frustrating "good, 7/10" air about it.

Enjoyable enough, but not GOTY standard, etc, etc.
