7/10 is pretty generous imo. Nice write up ecu.

Cheers. I can't help but appreciate the effort that went in to the game, and I think that comes across. I take it you thought it was worse than a 7, then?

I have recently played (all 360) and completed:

Sherlock Holmes: 7 Point and click all the way, good use of the Holmes/Ripper histories.
The Saboteur: 9 Excellent free roam sandbox style with some very good missions late on.
Spongebob: 7 Good enjoyable platform game, lots of refs to show, which the nerd in my liked.

Yeah, less than a 7 for me. Maybe a 5. I thought most of the key areas of the game were either bad or bordered on broken. The combat in particular was woeful. The endless conversations too, would've been painful to watch, let alone partcipate in.

The music was fantastic though, and the story was interesting, even if it was badly told.

I didn't think it was that bad. But there's some people out there that think this is the best game ever. I think it must have been the first RPG many people played, especially Xbox players who are used to Halo.

    Uncharted (the first one) 9/10

I completed this a while back, and honestly never saw what all the fuss was about. Playing through it on hard now, and for some reason am just enjoying it a whole lot more. Oddly enough, I had the same experience playing the original Halo.

Finished Modern Warefare 2 singleplayer, 7/10

It's spectacular, but verry confusing. I dunno exactly what happend, mostly the game goes
"HOLLY SHIT WHAT JUST HAPPEND,SIR!!" "We're Oscar Mike...!" "SOAP, MOVE!!!!" and then everything blows up and there's helicopters, lots of helicopters.

Multiplayer, 9/10, a few anoying balance issues but overal lots of fun, I'll keep playing that for a while.

    Mass Effect (PC)
By level 35 you're only getting one skill point per level up. It's not enough. Hell, two isn't enough. It doesn't feel rewarding enough. For how this should be handled, see: Fallout 3.

I think there may be a happy medium somewhere between the two. I don't remember Mass Effect being particularly stingy, but Fallout 3 was far too generous with its skill points. At the end of the story I had with a character who was an expert in at least two different types of weapon, and had maxed out lockpicking and hacking skills; it just took away any sense of having to specialise and you almost ended up an unstoppable juggernaught, regardless.

I think you summed up Mass Effect very well Ecureuil.

I've not actually completed it, but I'm eager to see if they have improved the flaws for the second.

Anyone know somewhere that has the story written up? I really can't be arsed to complete it before the 2nd one is out.

One thing Bioware does well, is that you pick a specific class, and after a certain point you can refine it. Such as, in Mass Effect, getting the soldier class, then being able to chose from shock trooper or commando. This refines your skills, but you're still locked within the class and you can't use biotics. Since Fallout 3 didn't really have anything like this, you could max all your stats. But then again, when you invest a significant amount of time in to an RPG, you expect to be unstoppable by the end of it. At least, that's what I expect.

    Left 4 Dead 2

Genuinely 10/10. I can't stop playing on pc, must admit I've neglected the 360 version, it's so good.

    Lego Batman.

I loved the Lego Star Wars games and was really looking forward to Lego Indy. Unfortunately it turned out to be uninspired dirge. But I still had Lego Batman to play and finally got around to it, almost frothing at the mouth with excitement. Meh. Dull.

They've somehow managed to turn what should have been the best game of the series (considering all of the gadgets that Batman has) into an equally uninspired, formulaic 'I've done this all before only better and with less bugs' type of game.

Within the first three levels I had one crash, one boss fight with Clay Face whereby I was no longer able to select Batman (who had decided to jump into a car and stay there) and no way of finishing the level, thus having to restart, and a bit in the second level where my fuckwitted character slipped on nothing at all (I was on a metal walkway, no ice, game just spazzed) and whenever he respawned he just kept slipping off the walkway without me being able to control him, or change to Robin, resulting in another restart.

It's dull and lifeless bugs aside, but they're unforgiveable and I can't be arsed to finish it. First game in a very long time that has happened with.

    3/10

Wow, my PS2 version didn't have any of thiose glitches, bad luck. I do think it is one of the weaker Lego titles but i much preferred it to Lego Indy. LB is also one of my hangover games as i go chasing the last few secrets when i need something simple to play.

Still only a 6/10 though unfortunately.

    Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee - 4/10

(Yes went a bit retro over Xmas). Loved the previous Oddworld games but this was incredibly flawed, repetitive and badly designed. Nice cut-scenes though.

yesterday - assassins creed 2 - 9/10 (appetite whetted for the third - really enjoyed it even with a few glitches and annoying missions that lose it a mark - big improvement on the original which i enjoyed anyway)

today - saw - 6/10 (i can see why the reviews criticised the combat but, once you get the hang of the counter system etc. it's not as bad as described - the game makes a good attempt at recreating the saw atmosphere and the emphasis is more on minigame puzzling than combat anyway - worth a rental)

    Borderlands

I've not finished this yet but I've been playing it for roughly 30 hours (love me them side-quests!) so I've got a good feel for the game.

I was very much looking forward to playing this so when my girlfriend picked this up for me for Christmas pretty much the first thing I did was fire it up and I've been playing it ever since.

It's an incredibly addictive game with some fun combat and funny characters, my only real complaint is that the world feels a little... sparse, I think some kind of conversation mechanic with the NPCs would make everything feel a little more alive, I appreciate Gearbox were trying to build a stripped down ARPG with a focus on combat but it has made the world feel a little empty (particularly when playing on your own).

I think I posted in the Borderlands thread that the combat, loot and character progression from this coupled with the world of Fallout 3 would pretty much be my perfect game. That being said Borderlands is incredibly fun to play, the shooting just feels right no matter your level and the loot and character progression are very well handled.

    8...... no 9/10

I have this lined up to play after ME2, well this or Dragon Age. The more I read about it the better it sounds. A recommendation from you Q is all I need ;)

Well worth a punt, especially if you like loot heavy action RPGs and enjoy the odd FPS (not sure of your feelings on that particular genre), it really is an expertly handled blend of the two.

Assassins' Creed 8/10. There's a patch in the middle of the game where it loses some of its momentum and it all seems a bit samey, but it just about redeems itself with an great final stretch. It's well executed though, and has an interesting setting.

(Although I hate games that can't be completed fully if you miss something -- I didn't get the achievement for going through all the conversations with Lucy.)

Firstly this mess isn't an rpg.How anyone could describe it as one is beyond me.It has no meaningful customisation or levelling,no stats,a story so bad it makes mw2s look like crime and punishment, the worst combat system i have ever come across, the graphics appear to have been programmed by a stoned monkey with a preference for grey, the characters are hateful, etc, etc.I got this and last rebellion on the same day.To say i was pissed off is an understatement.AVOID!!!

Persona 4. Had it since release (also have the NTSC-U version, originally just because I thought it might not come out here). Played it for the first time today and two hours 17 in I've finally finished my first session. The storytelling in Atlus games is far more interesting that those in Final Fantasy games (my previous benchmark for RPG's).

    10/10

Dreading having to buy a PS3 when Persona 5 comes out.

    Final Fantasy XIII

Started really slow and it wasn't 'til at least 10 hours in that it clicked. Even then I was very underwhelmed. The combat was good but not fantastic, certainly not the strategic masterpiece some are making it out to be. The story is typical JRPG fair with half of it making next to no sense at all. All the items, summons are there from previous games with the usual leveling up. Once nice thing is the way your health replenishes after each battle but then the game would be impossible if it didn't. Certainly not the masterpiece I was expecting and that's 55 hours of my life I will never see again. I want to give it a 7 because it's Final Fantasy but....

    6/10

Act like a dumbshit and they will treat you as an equal
