Registered 9 years agoInteresting details on the Wiki:
The blue star cursor from Super Mario Galaxy has been replaced with a red dot, allowing the player to aim and control Yoshi's tongue.
That bit in the trailer with what looked like dozens of purple Marios did look intriguing... more puzzle elements perhaps?
New items and features showcased include:
a drill that Mario can carry, allowing him to drill through dirt surfaces and entire planets, accessing new areas or attacking a boss's weakpoint for massive damage
a black-and-white switch that slows down time, meaning enemies and obstacles will move slowly
more detailed grass and plant-life, and seemingly improved horizon, particle and cloud effects
a shrunken Mario level similar to Tiny-Huge Island in Super Mario 64 -

Registered 8 years agoI think just a vague "next year, if I don't rip it up and start again" from Miyamoto is all we have. -

Registered 7 years agoYeah I think so too. The 2d Mario will come this year, Galaxy 2 next year. The black and white switch sounds interesting but I would have been surprised if there wasn't some kind of new gameplay mechanic in the game. Hopefully though it does a bit more than just slow down time because this has been done to death in other games. Maybe it will change gravity as well. -

Even if it has been done to death in other games, do you really think Nintendo is going to use it kill people in new and interesting ways, like what happens in most of those games?
I'm most interested in the scenes with all those shadowy Marios.
Also, I keep wondering about this when watching new Mario game footage. How is it Nintendo keeps coming up with a billion and one platforming ideas for their Mario games? You would think they would have run out by now. It's a pretty nifty trick. -

Registered 8 years agoI'm going to watch that trailer twenty more times and then forget the game even exists. I don't want to know about any new worlds, power ups, characters, bosses or game mechanics. I'm saving it all for when I actually play the game. -

I would be well up for some more SMG. I kind of regret selling my copy after i finished it tbh.

Registered 6 years agoThat trailer made me cream my pants, it looks fantastic.
Although, immediately after watching it, I kinda regretted it. It really does show alot of different levels. I made the same mistake with the first game, and I still wish I hadnīt spoiled anything for myself...
Well, so much for will power.... -

Much better quality on gametrailers, with the correct aspect ratio too.

I must admit when it first came on, I was like "okay, looks pretty much the same as the first one but with Yoshi." But everything from 1:10 onwards is OMFG AWESOME. I want it now. -

Registered 8 years agoI was a little concerned that the music in the trailer wasn't orchestrated, but if you look back at the original Galaxy trailer that wasn't either. Probably one of the last things they add.

Registered 5 years agoI have to admit, I was apprehensive about them just shoving a '2' on the end of SMG but I'm sold already. As long as there is at least one beach level with that gorgeous water. -

Registered 9 years agoMiyamoto says that 90% of the game will be all new, 10% recycled from SMG1. I'm guessing by that he means that a few of the same locations/settings will be used, but with different level designs.
Also, just a thought, but SMG clearly took its cue from SMB3, whereas there is something about this one - some of the worlds shown in the trailer, and not least the inclusion of Yoshi - that makes me think that SMW was the inspiration this time. It also looks as if some of the planets will be much bigger, if that snowy bit in the trailer is anything to go by. -

Registered 7 years agoThe beach levels were stunning. I'm more of a snow level guy though and I can see SMG2 has a big one which makes me very happy. -
The beach levels were too small in SMG, imo.
Oh yeah, and I'm expecting another amazing soundtrack to complement it all (no recycling SMG1 tracks, please). -
