Aniseed balls and liquorice are fucking disgusting. How can they be called sweets!?

My bi-daily order from the corner shop opposite my primary school:

'Half a quarter of sherbert lemons and half a quarter of sherbert strawberries please.'

    F. T. W.

    That and Stinger bars.

A few more "A quarter of" faves

Coconut Mushrooms. Weird candy shit topped with a coconut gunge in a vaguely suggestive coconut shape.

Pontefract cakes - Lush chunks of chewable liquorice sheep-shit-shaped loveliness.

Old Jamaica Coconut Tobacco - I doubt this still exists but definitely a fave as a kid. Looked a bit realistically like a rough shag but tasted a lot better.

Fizz Gonks - Not sure if these were known by different names in different parts of the country but they were sherbet-covered sweets, not made from honeycomb but that sort of texture. Usually cola flavour.

Aniseed twists. Once made the mistake of consuming a whole massive bag of these on a car journey. Puked a large orange twirly aniseed-smelling pukelet at the end of the journey. Not recommended.

    Mmm, good call :)
I'm currently working my way (slowly) through a bag of Dobson's Yorkshire Mixture and they are damn good! Although I think my favourite sweets are either liquorice allsorts or aniseed balls.

I've just come back from the local sweety emporium with a bag of pineapple cubes and toffee crumble (like an already chewed twix minus the chocolate). This thread will make me fat.

I used to work in the pick n mix part of the cinema in my student days, both good and bad experiences...

    Good....white mice...

Bad - Kids generally making my life hell, nicking sweets, getting a bag full to the brim, costing about 10 quid, and then they only have 1.20 to spend.......all wasted off as they've had their hands all over them.

Thing is, it was pure profit, started off as 89p per 100g, i'm sure it's about 1.09 per 100g or even more....so when going to the cinema, always choose pre-wrapped treats...OR go to the supermarket and get them for half the price like every bugger else does.

They cut the roof of my mouth something fierce like they've got special Ninja mouth stabbing knives. Still love 'em though. :)
