@beastmaster it is a bit awesome. I sold my ATV2 with that on it for 125 on ebay the other day. Icefilms I found was a little flakey on the ATV though but if it's working fine for you that's excellent.

Holy mother of god. Apple TV + XBMC + Icefilms add on... Game changer. Like the day I discovered Napster all over again.
This sounds rather awesome but I don't know what it is.
It allows you to stream movies and TV shows from the internet for free. Its good.

I've got it all setup up with xbmc now and pointed at my samba shares on the server where sick beard and couch potato dump all my TV and movies. Works like a dream

Anyone still using this? Looks like a handy alternative to dragging my Mac around to the sitting room and hooking it up to the telly.

Yup, daily. Netflix works great on it, amongst many other features.

Use one in the bedroom as an XBMC streaming box.

Currently playing: Standing In A Car Park Simulator 2013

Do you use the FireCore crack?

Looks as though I'll be gettting the new Apple TV. Looks great.

    Anyone else?

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Yup, I'll finally be able to get rid of the HCPC in the bedroom when I replace my ATV2

Jailbreak could be a while though sadly.

Is it possible to get a ATV2 now for cheaper than the 120 usually charged given the announcement of the new model.

I really want a nice cheap xbmc streamer for the main lounge.

I got mine from Amazon mike for 90 back in May. Add one to your wish list and it'll tell you when it's dropped in price.

I still love the idea, but I don't think it does enough to replace what I already have, ie: Sky TV, Xbox to stream music from my mac upstairs, and Lovefilm bluray subscription.
At 20 for series subscriptions, that's a) not far off getting a DVD boxset after it's finished, or b) doesn't seem value for money if I dumped Sky for it?

    Does that make sense?

Sounds like most people get the use out of it if they're of the one legged, eye patched variety? Would that be fair to say?

Yes, pretty much. As long as you JB it and stick XBMC on it anyway. Tempted for the same reason, but all my yarrings are generally available on Netflix, which is much easier and better quality

Mines mainly for music, netflix, youtube and me piratebay subscription.

Don't think I'll be upgrading. My ATV is only hooked up to a 24" bedroom TV so visually 1080p movies ain't happening. And I don't rent movies from iTunes, not at those prices!

Only plus point for me is the potential reduced price for existing stock.

So that about thwarts any interest I have.
Either pay through the nose for apple's content or up my naughty downloading (something I've been a bit scared of doing since some of the ISP reports last year).

    Boo.

Why? What was the other option?

As someone who doesn't have a 1080p TV and doesn't buy/rent from iTunes a 50 Roku looks like it would be a better option

For those of you with XBMC on a jailbroken ATV2, does it crash like a mofo for you? I use the Alaska Revisited skin and if I change the TV Shows view to Panel Tall and scroll around my ATV2 reboots.
  • Deleted user 8 March 2012 15:37:05
Nope, did you bother with an apt-get update?

I'm on Eden Beta 2 so I think I'm as up-to-date as can be. I investigated this on the XBMC forum and the debug logs suggest a massive memory leak and the crash is caused by running out of memory, but I'm not sure there's a lot can be done about it.

RC1 was posted in the weekend, update mofo.

    RC2 now.

It's done this for about the past year so I don't expect this particular update to have solved this specific issue but I'll definitely upgrade it again tonight.
  • Deleted user 8 March 2012 16:56:53
Doesn't sound right, what do you jailbreak with?
