I have to say find the idea of a music critic a bit odd. Music is really subjective, much more so than a game or a film. Plus, I can just listen to stuff in the shop, or on the radio or whatever before I buy it. I really don't get the idea of basing what music I listen to on someone else's opinion. Even if I care about their opinion, I still want to hear and judge for myself.
Listening to stuff to find out what it like is easy now, thanks to the internet. In the olden days it was difficult to find new music, with limited radio, even more limited music TV. I personally always find myself very selfcouncious when listening to stuff in the shop.
It's less stupid than a TV critic - how pointless is that?
On an unrelated note, I've always found it a bit odd how albums never have any find of description as to what kind of music it is, like you see with movies (e.g. DVDs or VHS cases) or novels. Probably a reflection of that subjectivity...
